Welcome to the University of Bristol’s Amateur Boxing Club. We aim to both introduce people to the sport and to develop fitness and technique with like minded people. We train together in some of Bristol's best boxing gyms as well as offering an extensive range of fitness sessions to allow you to work on cardio and strength at a low cost and without requiring a sports pass. We welcome you all, at whatever level you are!

Want to try the sport? Come along to our Sunday open training 4 - 6pm in the Students Union building - at just £2/session.

Training culminates in an epic fight night towards the end of term 2. This is where members can apply to fight someone with a similar weight and experience from a different university.

The Boxing Club has a strong tradition of running tough trials in order to be accepted into our fight team. You must attend both trials so that you can showcase your mental toughness. The idea of the trials is to test your effort levels and attitude as well as to put you through rigorous fitness drills. These will demonstrate the level of fitness which you will be expected to perform at throughout the year.

The boxing club committee and organisers will be looking for those who perform well in the trials in order to decide who will be able to train in the competitive squad this year and who will be able to train at the Sunday Sessions. Remember that we look for mental strength and endurance at trials. If you show determination you will get noticed.

Girls who just want to train on the Wednesday Boxercise Sessions DO NOT have to attend trials.

Part One - Tuesday 29th September - 6.30pm-8.30pm - At the Clifton Downs

Part Two - Thursday 1st October - 6.30pm-8.30pm - At the Clifton Downs

Fight Team Training Nights (Tuesday, Thursday) -Starting from 6th October.
You must pass trials in order to train with the fight team. Both male and female members in the squad get the opportunity to do more bag work, technique, professional coaching as well as sparring and competing. There is no pressure to compete.

Watch out for emails about the squad selection after TRIALS.

• On Tuesdays we train at Broadplain Boxing Club at 6.30 until 8.30pm. Address: Riverside Youth Project, BS29ES.

• On Thurdays we train at Empire Boxing Gym at 8.00 until 9.30pm. Address: Bristol Boxing Gym, BS5 0YJ

As we pay for professional coaching for the squad, squad members pay £50 fees for the term. Squad members then also get all other training for free so that's some great value!

Wednesday Womens Boxercise:
3.30-5pm Wednesdays at the student Union Building. Address: Richmond Bldg, 105 Queen's Rd, Bristol, City of Bristol BS8 1LN

These sessions are ladies only and will help you to boost your fitness and really work on toning the body.

No need to attend trials if you only intend on attending the Wednesday Sessions.

Wednesday sessions cost only £2 for the hour and a half session and are led by our own committee members.

Saturday Calisthenics: (optional additional training for fight team members)
11:00- 12:30 in Cotham Gardens or Brandon Hill Park.

These sessions will be free!

Sunday Training: (for anyone who wants to improve their fitness, male or female)
16:00-18:00 at the Student Union Building. Address: Richmond Bldg, 105 Queen's Rd, Bristol, City of Bristol BS8 1LN

At UoB Boxing we like to keep things fresh and varied. This year we will hold socials fornightly on WEDNESDAY NIGHTS so keep your diaries free on those days!

Nightlife/ Meals

We have our first social on Wednesday 30th September (between the trials).

Tough Mudder

Last year we took part in Tough Mudder. A hardcore 12 mile obstacle course. It was a lot of fun so we're bringing it back as an officially endorsed event this year. Watch out for more info via email / facebook.

Here's a link to our video from the event which gives you an impression of how fun the event was!

What could be a better crowd for paintballing than a mixture of very competitive, fit guys and girls?! We will let you know by email / facebook about our plans for Paintballing this year.

We think that meals provide the perfect opportunity to get to know the team that you will be training with over the next year. We will therefore be holding several more relaxed socials at some of Bristols best gastro-pubs and restaurants.
