Staying in Bristol over the summer holidays?

Many students go home after the June exams, but if you’re staying in Bristol over the summer period there are loads of things to see and do in the meantime...

For international students, summer is a great opportunity to experience some traditional British culture and activities. You are also less likely to have your plans spoiled by our famous English rain!

Don’t forget that Bristol SU is open all summer from 9am to 5pm. If you have any questions just come and ask us!

International Students

When you arrive in Bristol, the University’s International Office will welcome you to Bristol and let you know about welcome events.

  • Take a football and some friends up to the Downs.
  • Watch Wimbledon Tennis Championships
  • Watch the Tour de France

Helping Others (and yourself!)

Why not take advantage of having some more spare time, and do something nice for others? From just a few hours, to several weeks - volunteering is a great way to help people, gain new skills and meet others. The Volunteer Bristol website has a database of local opportunities.

For some people, the summer months can feel a bit quiet and lonely. The Student Counselling Service has a range of support for students staying in Bristol this summer.

Enjoy the Peace and Quiet!

With fewer students around, the summer period can be a good time to have fun (with a bit more space to yourself). Here are some ideas:

  • Take a stroll round Clifton village or Cotham and soak up the atmosphere
  • Try the pub quiz at your local pub.
  • Try something ‘touristy’, like going to the Zoo or Berkeley Castle – most places will have special events on over the summer. The Visit Bristol website has loads of information about touristy things to do.
  • Explore a neighbourhood of Bristol you haven’t been to before, or take a day trip to Bath or Weston-Super-Mare.
  • Beat the other students to the bargains in the summer sales.
