Bristol University victorious at the Varsity Boat Race

Hundreds of spectators packed Bristol Harbourside last Saturday (12 May) to watch the University of Bristol Boat Club go head-to-head against the University of the West of England (UWE) in the annual Varsity Boat Race.

As always competition between the crews was fierce, with Bristol being crowned eventual champions and regaining the Blade - the prize awarded to the winning university.
In total nine races were held over the 1.3km course, with the results as follows:
  • Men's 1st VIII - UWE
  • Women's 1st VIII - UoB
  • Men's Novice 1st VIII - UoB
  • Women's Novice 1st VIII - UoB
  • Men's 2nd VIII - UWE
  • Men's Alumni VIII - UoB
  • Women's Alumni VIII - UoB
  • Women's 2nd IV - UoB
  • Men's Novice 2nd VIII – UWE
The Varsity Series began in March with teams competing in wide range of sport including lacrosse, rugby, ice hockey and cricket.
This year the Varsity Series is fundraising for L'Dub, a BMX club based in Lawrence Weston that provides opportunities for young people to get involved in sport. As well as developing and maintaining the BMX track, the club offers equipment loans, coaching and safety advice.
