What does Bristol SU do?

Amy: Sport & Student Development Officer

Hi, I’m Amy and I’m the Sport and Student development officer. My role is all about supporting sports clubs and any areas of the university that engage students in physical activity. It also includes helping students develop skills in areas outside of academic studies.

As a student I studied Geography and joined the Women’s football team in first year. I have remained heavily involved in sport throughout my degree, holding the position of club captain in my second year and sitting on the sports network committee in my third before running to become Sport and Student Development officer.

The range and quality of sports clubs and sporting opportunities at this university is incredible and means that there is something for everyone! I can’t wait for this year and to help engage more people in sport and physical activity than ever!

Don’t hesitate to get in contact with any ideas or queries you have by email or Facebook.

My big plan:

Better access to sports facilities

  • Lobby the University to provide a bus to Coombe Dingle
  • Ensure students have the ability to pause university gym memberships
  • Lobby SEH to provide live figures for how busy the gym is

Sport for mental health and wellbeing

  • Increase the number of committee members who receive mental health first aid training
  • Increase the number of links between sports clubs and mental health and wellbeing initiatives

Better SU finance support for clubs

  • Review the criteria for the grant application process, making it more transparent to clubs and societies
  • Ensure access to club bank balances and transactions is straightforward for student groups

Review the club development process

  • Ensure the process of club allocation in the performance process is fair and transparent
  • Check the amount of work required for captains during the performance sport process so that it is challenging but manageable

More liberation groups in sport

  • Alter the sports network committee roles to have representatives from liberation groups
  • Provide more training for student leaders on how to make activities more inclusive
