The Guardian University Awards honour universities for projects that transform the lives of students and communities. Bristol SU was shortlisted in the Sustainability Project Category along with Royal Agricultural College and University of Edinburgh.
Bristol SU’s NUS Student Green Fund project, Get Green, developed the four-step model of student engagement for sustainability. Learn Act Engage Create is the journey University of Bristol students take to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to be responsible global citizens at university and beyond.
As part of the programme, students learn about sustainability in their curriculum; they act by participating in projects such as energy-saving or recycling campaigns in halls; and finally, they engage with other students on sustainability issues through volunteering and a sustainability network. They then take the initiative to create and lead sustainable change.
Overall the project engaged over 10,000 students in sustainability issues. Key highlights include:
