In 2015, the Richmond Building reopened after a £30 million revamp and can now offer a large, adaptable conference space in the Anson Rooms, two theatres, exhibition spaces, two bars and a variety of meeting and activity rooms. It is a unique facility within the city offering a wide range of spaces to meet the needs of any event.
At evenings and weekends during term time our spaces are used for a vast array of student activities: everything from high-profile gigs and student theatre to martial arts training. Outside of these times a range of event, performance and rehearsal spaces are available for hire.

Looking for an affordable venue for your award ceremony or gala dinner? The Anson Rooms with it’s dedicated bar can be dressed for all occasions and has hosted everything from wedding receptions and awards ceremonies to Christmas parties.
Downstairs, the Balloon Bar offers a bright, spacious event space which features a small stage, projector and screen, making it the perfect venue for birthday parties, product launches and networking events.

Bristol Students’ Union is home to the Anson Rooms, a 1150 capacity gig venue that throughout its history has played host to some of music’s biggest names. The likes of Amy Winehouse, Radiohead, David Bowie, Ed Sheeran and Bristol legends Massive Attack and Roni Size have all played here since it opened its doors over 50 years ago.
Along with our gig venue we have two theatre spaces that lend themselves perfectly to productions, film screenings, comedy nights or can simply be used as rehearsal spaces.
