Your seven full-time officers are elected by the student body every March and are paid and work full time to lead Bristol SU for a year. They represent students and help improve the student experience at Bristol.

Director of Marketing, Communications and Business Development: Paul Arnold

I have responsibility for leading several areas within the SU, including: our marketing and digital team, our events and community team, our business development and commercial teams, and delivering on our Welcome campaign and program.

Interim Director of Student Voice: Scott Farmer

I joined Bristol SU in January 2021 to lead the Student Voice directorate on a short-term basis. I oversee the work of the entire team. My particular focuses are supporting the full-time officers with their work, priorities and campaigns, helping Bristol SU to think strategically about how it supports Bristol students' voices and ensuring we can deliver our democratic cycle during the Covid pandemic.

Director of Student Engagement: Vacant

I lead our Student Engagement functions. Our Policy & Campaigns team ensure the SU has free and fair elections and that our student representatives are equipped to effectively represent our members. Our development team ensures there are a wide range of activities and opportunities available that will help students have fun and develop their skills - from being Captain of the Quidditch team to volunteering with a local charity.  Our Student Services team ensures that services are in place that support students and student groups and they deliver our advice service, Just Ask.

My role is to oversee these teams and to ensure all our activities meet students' needs, are high quality and financially sustainable.

Associate Director of People and Culture: Maddy Wall

My role is to oversee the People and Development function within Bristol SU.  This includes streamlining and creating consistency within HR processes such as recruitment and induction, amongst others.  It focuses largely on advising and supporting managers within Bristol SU regarding effective people management, coordinating our learning and development programme and working on projects to improve people's experience of working at Bristol SU and to lead and embed organisational change.

Finance Business Partner: Katie Pilcher

I support the Head of Finance with financial management and accounting responsibilities. I provide financial management and budgeting support to all the teams across the SU. My role is to act as a partner between the finance team and the rest of the SU by providing finance knowledge to their teams when they need it. It is my job to provide key stakeholders such as the Trustees with high-quality financial information on a regular basis.

Financial Accountant: Chris Hasker

I oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounts receivable function, undertake month-end procedures and take the lead on income received through UnionCloud and the Student Union’s fixed assets, bank accounts and cash handling. I manage the Senior Finance Assistant and work with the Heads of Finance and Interim Finance Manager to produce monthly management accounts and ad hoc reports.

Financial Accountant: Thao Ha

I oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounts payable function, undertake month-end procedures and take the lead on financial support for the volunteer groups, RAG and Varsity events. I manage the Purchase Ledger Finance Assistant and work with Heads of Finance to produce monthly management accounts and quarterly VAT returns.

Finance Assistant: Matt Moras

I take the lead on Purchase Ledger (supplier invoices and payments), Club/Society/RAG accounts, production of cheques (for suppliers and student claims) and transfers between accounts. I also deal with electronic payments (for suppliers and student claims), petty cash claims, expense claims, float requests and general queries.

Executive and Governance Manager: Suzanne Doyle

My role here at Bristol SU is to lead and develop key organisation frameworks encompassing planning values and culture to ensure the ongoing transformation of Bristol SU. I provide effective and proactive support to the Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer. I also manage and support the Trustee Board of the Union. I lead on special projects.

I support our Head of People and Administration to ensure the smooth running of the Student Union office. The student engagement team fulfil several key roles within the SU. They lead on representation, creating and developing student-led campaigns, development opportunities for students and groups, creating democratic events and elections and offering advice through the Just Ask service.

 

 

Student Opportunities Manager (Individuals): Hannah McGough

I manage the volunteering team and work to ensure that there are a wide range of opportunities for students to get to know Bristol better, make a difference and feel good. I work with the University and organisations across to the city to bring the very best opportunities to Bristol Students.

Student Engagement Coordinator (Bristol Futures): Charlotte Anderson

I work in partnership with the Bristol Futures Professional and Community Engagement team to identify new opportunities for students that will help them to develop the skills and attributes included in the Bristol Skills Framework. I coordinate the development of volunteering opportunities, in the city and wider region, that link in with the three Bristol Futures themes: Innovation and Enterprise, Global Citizenship and Sustainable Futures. I also provide advice and support for student-led projects and groups including societies and the RAG, Sustainability and Volunteering Network.

Student Opportunities Manager (Groups & Services): Jemma Harford 

I lead our student groups and services team to deliver outstanding support over 300 student-led groups and their leaders. By delivering information, support and guidance to help our student groups be the best they can be.

As the Student Services Team leader I am responsible for managing and coordinating the work of the Student Services team, handling day-to-day transactions and offering guidance to student groups. Intramural Sport Coordinator: Beth Lewis

I coordinate Intramural - the SU's programme of social, semi-competitive sport. Working in collaboration with sports clubs, we engage nearly 3,000 students in over 12 sports including football, netball, hockey and e-sports. I work on both the administrative side of the leagues to ensure they run smoothly and on improving the student experience of social sports in Bristol.

Advice Manager

I manage and coordinate the Just Ask Advice Service to ensure that students receive quality advice and support when around academic issues and to help them get the best outcome for them from university procedures. I also work with other Bristol SU teams and university staff to make sure that our knowledge from our case work feeds into campaigns and policy decisions that might affect students.

I work part-time: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, a half day on Thursday.

I work with the Student Engagement team to facilitate representation and democracy at Bristol SU. We support student reps, officers and campaigners to represent students' views and make informed decisions about policy that affects students, as well as co-ordinating major democratic events such as elections and Annual Members Meetings.

As one of two Student Voice Managers, I lead a small team that supports a network of over 800 academic reps, academic society leaders and other student roles. Together they make up Bristol SU’s Education Network which collaborates on the academic issues that are important to Bristol students, whether that's at course level, university level, or even national issues. As well as supporting student representatives, I also deliver Bristol SU’s approach to student consultation and ensure we have a joined-up approach which maximises the positive impact for students.

Democracy and Campaigns Coordinator: Finn Northrop

I support students to make a change and become effective representatives. I ensure the effective running of Bristol SU's democratic structures; Student Council, AMM and Elections. Campaigns and Policy Coordinator: Lucy Mercer

I work as part of the Student Voice team to provide close support and guidance to student representatives, particularly Networks, to help them run campaigns and build communities. I also help deliver Bristol SU’s democratic structures and events and ensure that proposed policies are coherent and compliant with SU guidelines. Our aim is to develop campaign objectives and monitor campaign impact and outcomes to enable students to get the absolute most out of their student experience.

Research and Consultation Coordinator: Vasiliki Sogia

I plan, design and analyse research projects about students and the student exprience at the University of Bristol. At Bristol SU we use research to find out more about our students and the results are used to both improve our own services and to lobby the University to improve student experience.  I also help deliver our wider consiultation activities. Additionally, I lead a small team of part-time student researchers and a full-time staff member whose work focuses on effective student consultation for the University's Student Experience Programme.

Student Voice Coordinator: Josie Benge

I work closely with staff at the University to ensure that Student Voice is at the heart of the Student Experience Programme - a change project designed to improve Bristol students’ lives at university. This mainly involves planning and delivering consultation activities with students and reporting on the outcomes. I also support the Programme by researching and reporting on existing evidence about student experience.

Academic Representation Coordinator: Stella Becci

My main responsibility in the Student Voice team lies with coordinating the academic representation system, a partnership between Bristol SU and the University of Bristol, to ensure the academic interests of students are represented at all levels (programme, faculty, and university). As such, I make a significant contribution to projects such as the SU Elections. As part of the Representation Team, I offer training and support to over 800 academic reps. I also provide administrative support to the Education Network with its committee meetings, forums and campaigns, and to the Education Officers with their priorities.

As part of the Student Voice Team, I work closely with academic representatives to ensure they have access to the support and resources they need to be effective in creating positive change at University. I also work with the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education Officers to provide support for their projects and priorities.

Head of Property Services: Victoria Hanley 

I head up the Bristol SU Lettings team, we’re a student-focused free of charge letting agency offering our students the best in private rented accommodation across Bristol! It's part of my job to build relationships with local landlords to get you the best deal on your student accommodation directly through Bristol SU.  We don't charge fees like high street agents and our service is completely free so make sure you come to us first when looking for your student place!  We're located on campus at 5 Tyndall Avenue (next door to the Careers Advice Centre).

I deal with the front-end of the lettings business, managing initial enquiries and conducting property viewings. I am the primary point of contact for the thousands of students looking for accommodation in Bristol, and I endeavour to make the lettings process as easy and stress-free as possible! When not out at house viewings, I can be found in our small but busy office right in the heart of the University of Bristol, on Tyndall Avenue.

Commercial Events and Media Sales Executive: Kirsty Hibbert

I am responsible for fundraising income for the SU via: Venue Hire, Welcome Fair stand sales, brand activation stalls and direct marketing to the student population, including the coordination of student group external sponsorship. I have an excellent understanding of what it takes to engage with the student population both digitally and face-to-face. Commercial and Strategic Project Manager: Chloe Hogan 

I manage the Business Development team at the SU for Venue Hire, Media Sales and the Job Shop. My main role is to develop, lead and deliver on on our strategies for selling room and brand activation space in the Richmond Building from conferences to tradeshows and theatre shows. I lead on strategic projects in the SU Business Development team including but not limited to the Welcome Fair and Refreshers Fair. I'm working at the Merchandise Department of Bristol SU.  You can usually find me at The Basket, our merchandise shop in the Richmond Building.  I am in charge of the online shop and all bespoke orders for Bristol SU, Bristol University and student clubs and societies.  I also organise all merchandise stalls during Welcome Week, at Graduation and for other events.

I'm the in-house developer for Bristol SU. My main role is leading the development of our open source service delivery platform, though I also look for opportunities for process automation and optimisation and help train staff on our systems.

Social Media Content Creator: Nura Alyah

I run our social media channels, which includes making and sourcing content that shows off everything we do as an SU. This also means I do live event coverage, and manage the day-to-day running of our various social accounts. I also work on producing most of our in-house video production and photography.

Digital Communications Executive: Freya Gill-Stevens

I plan and deliver digital communications activity for the many campaigns that the Union runs throughout the year - from student-group led campaigns, to wider campaigns like elections and welcome week. I am responsible for email communications, website content, and paid digital advertising.

Head of Events, Programming and Venues: Rebecca Evans

I’m responsible for ensuring that Bristol SU delivers a varied and high-quality events program from Welcome Week right through to Awards Week at the end of the year. I lead the Events and Tech team to support Bristol SU’s vision of giving students “the best student life”.

Events Coordinator (Programming): Benji Staples

I support the events team in creating and delivering an exciting and diverse programme of events for Bristol SU students. I lead on our live programme of gigs and shows.

Events, Marketing and Programming Coordinator: Position Vacant 

I manage the marketing for all the live shows we run out of the Anson Rooms, Winston Theatre and Pegg Theatre. This includes a diverse programme of live music, comedy, speaker events and more. Students get free booking fees on all shows and you can check out the whole programme here. I also coordinate the development of the Bristol SU Living Room, which aims to facilitate positive wellbeing by providing students with a space to relax, unwind and socialise on campus, along with a packed programme of student led activities to create a sense of community. We welcome student input into how the SU Living Room is run so if you want to get involved, or simply want to find out more, you can do so here. Events Coordinator (Student Programming): Grace Mulley

I coordinate all of the student-led events across our venues and work with student leaders to deliver their campaigns. Talk to me if you're a student wanting to put on a large scale event in the building!

Facilities and Technical Manager: Andrew Williams

I lead the delivery of technical management and logistical support for all events and work closely with event organisers including staff, students and external clients to plan, advise and deliver on all technical and logistical elements of their event be it large or small. I manage all aspects of technical equipment and facilities including purchasing, regular inspection and maintenance within Bristol SU.  I also lead on Health & Safety relating to the use of all performance spaces within the building ensuring they are fit for purpose and in good presentation.

Facilities and Technical Assistant: Jack Hancocks 

I provide technical support for events at the Bristol Students Union. This can range from large-scale gigs, to formal dinners and everything in between. I specialise in the implementation of lighting for events, but also have experience in sound engineering and AV support. Another part of my role is to ensure the facilities in the building are maintained for student and client usage on a daily basis. Technical Assistant: Jake Newman

I provide technical support for students wishing to host their own events, as well as assisting with external gigs in the Anson Rooms. I specialise in sound engineering and can often be found in the Balloon Bar providing sound for open mics and karaoke. I work closely with the events team to ensure that every event we host is as enjoyable as possible.
