Senior Leadership Team

Chief Executive: Samantha Budd

I am responsible for overall  management of the organisation and responsible to the Board of Trustees for ensuring that they have sufficient information and understanding of the issues and options available to them in order to undertake their responsibilities as Trustees and Directors  effectively. The role involves developing and leading  the strategic direction of the organisation and  setting and monitoring a robust performance framework that ensures that Bristol SU is able to deliver against its mission, vision and values. 

Chief Operating Officer: Ben Pilling

I am responsible for the company's day-to-day operations including financial performance and reporting them to the Chief Executive, the Trustees and Executive Leadership Team. I work closely with the principle funders of the organisation including the University. I lead key strategic projects and seek at all times to ensure the organisation delivers for the students of Bristol.

Central Services

Head of Finance: Jayne Hufford and Rebecca Miller (job share)

We provide leadership and operational management for the Bristol SU finance function - we work to ensure that Bristol SU is financially sustainable now and in the future through the development and application of robust systems and management information. We ensure compliance with all relevant legal/regulatory requirements and deploy finance-related procedures across Bristol SU. We support the Chief Operating Officer in working to deliver a very high level of service for students, internal customers and other stakeholders through the development of people and systems.

Finance Coordinator: Rhiannon Lewis

I oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounts function, including maintaining Bristol SU's financial systems, undertaking regular reconciliations to safeguard the company's assets, facilitating in the reporting and analysis of Bristol SU's financial position, and managing the finance assistants.  I carry out administrative duties for the organisation's (GPC) purchasing cards.  I also take the lead on financial support for the Lettings and Merchandise departments.

Finance Assistant: Filip Purski

I take the lead on Purchase Ledger (supplier invoices and payments), Club/Society/RAG accounts, production of cheques (for suppliers and student claims) and transfers between accounts. I also deal with electronic payments (for suppliers and student claims), monthly account reconciliations, petty cash claims, expense claims, float requests and general queries.

Finance Apprentice: Phil Gravatt

I take the lead on Sales Ledger (customer invoices, statement and receipts), credit control, cash handling and banking. I also deal with monthly account reconciliations, petty cash, float requests and general queries.

My role is to oversee the People and Development function within Bristol SU.  This includes streamlining and creating consistency within HR processes such as recruitment and induction, amongst others.  It focuses largely on advising and supporting managers within Bristol SU regarding effective people management, coordinating our learning and development programme and working on projects to improve people's experience of working at Bristol SU and to lead and embed organisational change.

Executive Manager: Suzanne Doyle

I joined Bristol SU in October 2011, having been involved in Students' Unions in the past. In 1998 - 2000 I was the Student Support Officer Sabbatical at the University of the West of England. While a student I was also the Bar Supervisor and ran the Freshers' Fair and advertising for the Union and ran the entertainment on my campus. My role here at Bristol SU is to lead and develop key organisation frameworks encompassing planning values and culture to ensure the ongoing transformation of Bristol SU. I provide effective and proactive support to the Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer. I also manage and support the Trustee Board of the Union. I lead on special projects.

Student Engagement

Head of Student Engagement: Dani Glazzard

I lead our Student Engagement functions. Our Policy & Campaigns team ensure the SU has free and fair elections and that our student representatives are equipped to effectively represent our members. Our development team ensures there are a wide range of activities and opportunities available that will help students have fun and develop their skills - from being Captain of the Quidditch team to volunteering with a local charity.  Our Student Services team ensures that services are in place that support students and student groups and they deliver our advice service, Just Ask. My role is to oversee these teams and to ensure all our activities meet students' needs, are high quality and financially sustainable. 

Student Engagement Manager (Policy and Campaigns): Helen Hoogewerf-McComb

I work with the Student Engagement team to facilitate representation and democracy at Bristol SU. We support student reps, officers and campaigners to represent students' views and make informed decisions about policy that affects students, as well as co-ordinating major democratic events such as elections and Annual Members Meetings.

As Representation Coordinator I provide Faculty and Course Reps with training and on-going support, ensuring that they are able to represent their peers really effectively.  I also assisst with elections, liaise with the University over matters relating to Academic Representation, and support other projects such as the Bristol Teaching Awards.

Representation and Policy Coordinator: Alice Phillips

As Representation & Policy Coordinator I support our elected representatives by undertaking desktop research and providing detailed policy briefings on issues related to their objectives and campaigns. I also work with representatives to develop campaign plans and to monitor campaign impact and outcomes. I oversee Bristol SU's policy lead system which helps to build expertise in important policy areas across the organisation. I also support the coordination of online elections and contribute to the induction and ongoing training and development of representatives.

Democracy and Campaigns Coordinator: Ann O'Malley

I support students to make a change and become effective representatives. I ensure the effective running of Bristol SU's democratic structures; Student Council, AMM, and Elections. I support liberation groups and student led campaigns with the Policy & Campaigns Assistant. I also support students to be represented across the various communities in Bristol and nationally. Education Representation Coordinator: Robiu Salisu

As the Education Representation Coordinator, I am in charge of leading the development and delivery of Bristol SU’s education change activities whilst ensuring strong and effective student representation at the University. A big part of my role includes supporting our representatives, officers and student groups to engage in the newly established Education Network to engage in education policy debates and form ideas for improving the student experience. Furthermore, I work with staff and departments across the University to ensure that a wide cross-section of students are actively engaged in shaping their own education.

Policy and Campaigns Assistant: Ellen Edenbrow

As Policy and Campaign Assistant, I support and liaise with the SU’s Networks to promote and help deliver democratic changes. The support I give will be provided through training, advice and information to encourage and develop campaigns and activism. I specifically support Liberation Networks and any liberation groups at Bristol SU. I coordinate Bristol Students representation at conferences hosted by the National Union of Students. Here, students vote on policy changes to make positive and effective outcomes for students up and down the country. Student Residential Experience Coordinator: Benji Staples

My role goes towards supporting the ongoing development of student communities in residences (and those outside of traditional halls of residence), adding value and support to the current JCR/hall activities, and developing partnership work between Bristol SU and Residencies to ensure students have the best possible experience.  Please feel free to contact your Student Living Officer or myself if you would like any information about living in halls of residence and the JCR committees.

Student Engagement Manager (Student Services): Christy O'Sullivan

I oversee our student services, and advice provisions, ensuring that each function delivers what our students have asked for and that our members' individual needs are being met. I look at the accessibility and quality of our services, and do everything I can to ensure that we give the best possible experience to students who reach out to us for help, support and guidance. 

Student Engagement Manager (Development): Hannah McGough 

I work with rest of the Development team to help all students to gain skills and experience through the many opportunities that the Students Union has to offer. Whether it's leading a student group, volunteering, representing your peers or participating in sport our team are here to support you to make the most of those opportunities. We provide support, training and rewards for your personal and group development.

Student Opportunities Coordinator: Jemma Harford (maternity leave)

As Student Opportunities Coordinator I manage the development opportunities avalible to student groups and individuals at Bristol SU. This includes our fantastic sports programs, volunteering opportunities and the training and development schedule for student leaders. I am currently away on maternity leave and expect to return towards the end of 2017.

Student Opportunities Coordinator: Imogen Hughes

As Student Opportunities Coordinator I manage the development opportunities avalible to student groups and individuals at Bristol SU. This includes our fantastic sports programs, volunteering opportunities and the training and development schedule for student leaders. I am covering Jemma Harford's maternity leave.

Student Volunteering Assistant: Gemma Murray

I support student volunteering at Bristol SU, in particular the development of our 16 Student Led Volunteering projects, and the online Volunteering Brokerage tool. I also help with training and development for student leaders and volunteer project co-ordinators. I’m also helping to increase one-off volunteering events and micro-volunteering opportunities through Bristol Union. Student Services Coordinator: Lauren Rubery

As the Student Services Coordinator I am responsible for managing the student services team on a part time basis. I am currently away on maternity leave and Charlotte Long is covering my post.

Student Services Assistants: Caitlin Flint, Monika Pacek and Nick Marshall

We offer a welcoming environment for students, staff, and guests on the third floor reception in the SU. We’re here to answer any questions you might have about joining societies or sports clubs and getting involved with the Students' Union. For student groups, we help you book rooms, make transport bookings, and deal with Bristol SU website admin. We also offer support and advice to student groups about their financial needs (such as claims, invoices and float requests). 

Advice Team Leader: Emma Quixley

I am the newest member of the Just Ask Team, joining in June 2016 as Team Leader. Among other things, I am responsible for managing the team, developing the service and building key relationships with Student groups and University Staff.

Information and Advice Coordinator: Will Bryson

I'm part of the Just Ask advice team, so most of the time I'm advising or supporting students. I help with extenuating circumstances, advice about accommodation, money, mental health, sexuality, dealing with accusations of plagarism, and much more. This can mean just talking things through, working out what to do next, or putting students in touch with other services. I work part-time, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday mornings.

Information and Advice Coordinator: Amy Butlin

I'm part of the Just Ask advice team and I can help students with any issues that they might encounter during their time at Bristol University. Enterprise Development

Business Development Manager: Eleni Franklin

I’m responsible for our business development function. As part of my role I head up our merchandise function, lead on all media sales throughout the year and lead on NUS Extra sales. I’m also looking at ways to develop sponsorship opportunities for commercial clients and any other ways in which we can increase our commercial function. I head up the Bristol SU Lettings team, we’re a student focused free of charge letting agency offering our students the best in private rented accommodation across Bristol! It's part of my job to build relationships with local landlords to get you the best deal on your student accommodation directly through Bristol SU.  We don't charge fees like high street agents and our service is completely free so make sure you come to us first when looking for your student place!  We're located on campus at 5 Tyndall Avenue (next door to the Careers Advice Centre).

I'm working at the Merchandise Department of Bristol SU.  You can usually find me at The Basket, our merchandise shop in the Richmond Building.  I am in charge of the online shop and all bespoke orders for Bristol SU, Bristol University and student clubs and societies.  I also organise all merchandise stalls during Welcome Week, at Graduation and for other events.

Communications and Engagement

Head of Communications and Engagement: Tom Berry

I am responsible for how Bristol SU engages with its audiences -  whether students or stakeholders. I oversee our communications and stakeholder engagement activity as well as our events programme. I also manage research and evaluation, ensuring that the student's voice is reflected in everything that we do.  I have previously worked in a variety of communications roles including in central Government, charities like the NSPCC and Mencap and for the Disability Rights Commission.

Marketing Manager: Ed Thake-Adams

I'm responsible for delivering engaging, high quality communications of Bristol SU's activities and campaigns to University of Bristol students. I lead the marketing and communications team to support Bristol SU in achieving its vision, and I also oversee Bristol SU's media sales.

Communications Executive: Nicola Haydon

I support the marketing and communication aspects of the many campaigns the Students’ Union runs throughout the year. I also support the marketing and communications of and SU Live events as well as the events taking place in the Balloon Bar. Any press relations enquiries should be directed to myself.

Graphic and Web Designer: Jessica Augarde

I work within the marketing team to create design for print and web. This includes promotional materials for events, projects and campaigns, signage, web banners and templates.

Digital Marketing Coordinator:  Andy Page

I work within the marketing team providing digital support to the many campaigns that the Union runs throughout the year. I also oversee the general look and feel of our website and monitor the performance of the SU’s online platforms.

Research & Evaluation Coordinator: Chloe Maughan

I work on a whole host of projects around researching the Student Experience. I carry out primary and secondary research to find out what Bristol students think, on anything from their Course to their Wellbeing or SU. This data is used to ensure we can improve the opportunities we provide to students and to improve student representation. I ensure Student Representatives are informed of the data available to them, and relevant results, to ensure they can provide students with the best possible representation.   • I lead the events team in creating and delivering an exciting and diverse programme of events for Bristol SU students from talks and lectures, to gigs and comedy, to pub quizzes and karaoke. We support students in delivering their own events and work with commercial clients outside of peak hours to generate income to support student activities.

Events and Sales Coordinator: Rebecca Evans

I support the other members of the events team in delivering a varied events program for students.  We encourage student-led events and offer support from the planning stages, right up to on-the-day logistical and event support. I’m also responsible for handling commercial bookings for activities ranging from theatre shows to meetings and conferences. Events Assistant: Nadia Crespo-Rosas

I am the main liaison between student groups wishing to organise events and the events team and tech team that will help you make it a success!  Contact me for anything ranging from a small networking event in the Balloon Bar right up to a large-scale student event in the Anson Rooms.

Facilities and Technical Manager: Andrew Williams

I lead the delivery of technical management and logistical support for all events and work closely with event organisers including staff, students and external clients to plan, advise and deliver on all technical and logistical elements of their event be it large or small. I manage all aspects of technical equipment and facilities including purchasing, regular inspection and maintenance within Bristol SU.  I also lead on Health & Safety relating to the use of all performance spaces within the building ensuring they are fit for purpose and in good presentation.
