Established in 2004, the University of Bristol Archaeology and Anthropology Society is an academic society dedicated to engaging with and exploring the fields of archaeology and anthropology. As a society we aim to promote, support and develop students’, alumni's, and members of the public’s interests in archaeology and anthropology through the activities of the society.
Our society achieves our aims through a variety of activities. Our social events aim to cultivate an atmosphere where anyone can freely engage in discussions and debates over developments in the fields of archaeology and anthropology, while still relaxing and having a good time. We aim to create a community where students can meet and socialise, as well as introduceing them to new and exciting subjects from the fields of both archaeology and anthropology. Field trips – often led by experts – provide an opportunity to have firsthand experiences with archaeological material within their cultural and physical landscapes. Often fieldtrips will engage with local communities attempting to develop a relationship between archaeology and anthropology.
The society also maintains a Facebook page and an Instagram page.

Arch and Anth Soc is first off an academic society so we run a lot of activities aimed to enhance and widen your experience of your degree, including our weekily lecture series as well as the odd field trip, and a couple other events in the works. We also like to go out, usually to the White Harte then to whatever club our social secs decree! These socials are often either linked to our parents scheme, fancy dress or just a chance for everyone to get together!
We hope to reintroduce our summer formal, the SPAARe PartS Ball, which we co hosted with the Social Policly, Religion and Theology and Sociology societies (hence the trippy capitalisation), as a chance to celebrate the end of another succesful and fun-filled year! We also had a very successful Arch&Anth Winter Formal, that involved a three course meal and lots of dancing - another event we plan to bring back this year!
Our other traditional annual events will obviously be returning amidst all these other exciting new socials we a running for you. Help defend the coveted Golden Trowel from the post grads at the Christmas Quiz, and meet next year's committee when they run the Summer BBQ at the end of the Berkeley dig.
Membership to the society gets you some great benefits. Not only do you receive a free t-shirt but you also get discounts on nights out and other great offers throughout the year.
