BULABDS notoriously is one of the largest societies at the University of Bristol, with dance classes taught by professional dance coaches that are designed to be easy-going, give you plenty of time and many opportunities to socialise, have fun, and at the same time learn to dance!
The dancing that we offer is separated into two categories: Latin and Ballroom.
Latin dance comprises of the rather chic, sexy and cheeky dances such as the
Ballroom dancing is made up of dances usually associated with traditional ballroom dancing:
It is a welcome alternative to the showmanship of Latin, erring instead on the side of grace and elegance.
Under normal conditions we run a social class for those wanting to dance socially in a fun, friendly and relaxed atmosphere; as well as team classes for those deciding to be part of our competition team, or just have a greater focus on technique and presentation.
This year our classes from the outset will be online with a reduced number of level groups and classes. As restrictions hopefully improve we will be providing opportunities to take in-person classes when they are possible.
The classes are split into the following levels:
19:30 – 20:15 Int/Adv Latin
20:30 – 21:15 Latin Workshop/Fitness
20:30 – 21:15 Novice Latin
20:30 – 21:15 Ballroom Workshop/Fitness
21:15 – 22:00 Int/Adv Ballroom
20:45 – 21:30 Novice Ballroom
* Please note this timetable is subject to change for TB2 - for updates please join the mailing list or Facebook group
We pride ourselves on being the only society to have proper balls! Each year we have both a winter and spring ball. This year unfortunately due to the pandemic we are not expecting to be able to put on a ball in conventional format.
Classes are open to Bristol University students, UWE students and non-students.
UWE and non-students are required to affiliate with the University of Bristol Students Union.*
For 2020/21 we have the following membership options
This differs from our usual yearly/termly membership scheme due to the consistently changing restrictions.
*Please note: Non-students will, unfortunately, have to pay an annual £25 affiliation fee to the Students Union.
**Additional practice space will not be included in this price, as well as costs for competitions, transport and optional private lessons.
