DinoSoc (Earth Sciences)

  • Dinosoc

Description

DINOSOC is a society for all peoples interested in palaeontology, from the novice fossil hunter to the aspiring palaeontologist. This society is for everyone and anyone who is passionate about palaeontology!

DINOSOC will be organising plenty of activities this year:

Trips

We run fossil hunting trips to fossil sites in and around the Bristol area. These are led by experienced DINOSOC field guides and whatever you find - You get to Keep!

(Be warned, you WILL get muddy on the fossil hunting trips. It's guaranteed to happen, but it all adds to the experience so just go with it!)

Come Face to Face with Prehistoric Monsters!

Previous years trips have involved travel to exotic locations such as Penarth, Aust, and Writhlington! Sometimes we even manage to arrange residential trips to sites on the jurassic coast including Lyme Regis and Lulworth cove.

Uncover Treasures of Ancient Life!

Get Stuck In Excavating those Fossils and Remember: Whatever You Find - You Keep!

We also run trips and events for those less keen on getting muddy, these have included trips to museums including the wonderful etches collection in kimmeridge and running a stall at events here at the amazing bristol museum and art gallery.

Guest Lectures

UoB has a fantastic palaeobiology department, which regularly publishes world-class research. We'll try to pry some department members away from their research long enough to speak to you guys about what they're doing and how you could get involved.

Bristol is a hub for life sciences in the South West, so we'll be getting special guest speakers from a whole range of organisations and institutions to come and tell you all about their work, how you could get involved and maybe a few stories about from their travels and life in their profession.

Socials

DINOSOC is a student society, so of course we WILL have socials. Being palaeontologists, they will have dinosaur related pun names. Our regular social is a fortnightly pub trip and we are also keen to start branching out into less alcohol based socials.

You have my word the puns will be cringe worthy.
