Brenda Duan - Secretary

Nate Browne - Treasurer

Katie Doran & Uma Scott - Social Secretaries

Dan Gorringe - Industrial Liaison

Mark Crowley - Sports Secretary

Uma Scott - Equality Officer

Pablo Grant De Torres - Webmaster

Some of our plans for socials are:

  • Pub/club nights
  • Christmas dinners
  • Summer formal
  • Quiz nights
  • Industrial talks

Housing System:
BEMS is unique because we use a housing system as opposed to the parenting scheme that most other societies use. We find that this works really well to integrate the years so you can have friends across all cohorts! First years are automatically assigned to a house, and new MSc students must contact us to ‘Opt in’ to join a house. If there are any issues of course message us and we’ll sort it out!

Pint of Engineering Maths:
PoEM! Our pride and joy, Pint of Eng-Maths is our famous panel show which gets industrial contacts involved in a 'free pizza and drinks’ event! The panel show has a topic for each session, such as: PhDs, careers, startups, and internships. We actually have some really fantastic ideas for the year so keep your eyes peeled for when we announce the event!

We are here for you:
Just a last little notice, we want to let you know that BEMS are here for you and feel free to message us about anything. These are some unique times and BEMS want to make sure that you are all getting everything you wanted out of the year, regardless of the current situation. We are going to get some brand new merchandise for you all, so keep up to date on our Facebook pages and stay connected!

Upcoming Event Dates:

  • 10th October, we’ll be hosting the BEMS Housing social! It’s going to be a funky pub quiz, separated by houses to get you all chatting with people from each cohort. Our 4 houses are: Lovelace, Jackson, Brunel and Turing. Each house is named after a fab engineer, so read up about your respective house-engineer and you may find it handy for Saturday… (hint hint)
  • 12th November (Provisional),Our first PoEM event will be held! Topic and speakers to be determined! Stay tuned for incoming updates soon.

Our ideas:

  • Organise industrial talks about how Engineering Mathematics can be used in our future careers
  • Arrange talks from departmental staff and graduates about their research
  • Keep up the yearly tradition of Eng Maths Houses (first years automatically get assigned into a house)
