We support, represent and unite the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and plus students of Bristol University. We are a judgement free society and welcome people of absolutely all genders and sexual minorities.
WHAT WE DO
- Provide a safe meeting group and events for LGBT+ students.
- Promote awareness of LGBT+ issues to the student body.
- Offer a confidential peer support group for LGBT+ students.
In 2015 we were named as the runner up of NUS Best LGBT Society of the Year, and won NUS Best Campaign! We also won NUS Best LGBT society alongside the 'Best Student Group' and 'Campaign of the Year' at Bristol SU Awards Night in previous years. In 2018 we won the Bristol SU Society Award for "Most Inclusive Society".
PRIVACY & CONFIDENTIALITY
However you identify, or if you prefer no label at all, you are more than welcome to join us, and you don't have to be ‘out’ to join! The LGBT+ Society values your privacy and at your request we do our best to protect it - just let fellow members and/or a committee member know that you don't want to be tagged on social media etc.
Anyone contacting our committee seeking advice or welfare support will be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality. Unless we feel you are in danger, we will not share any personal details of your situation with a relevant peer, such as our Welfare Rep, without first receiving your permission. Support group discussion is also completely private, and we have a very strong record of confidentiality. We want all our members to feel they have somewhere to turn to for support.
You also don't have to identify as LGBT+ to join us - supporters are very welcome at our events. We look forward to meeting you!
If you're worried/nervous/unsure of your sexuality or gender identity, or have some other issue that you want to talk about, even if you're not yet part of the society, you can email Siavash (our Welfare Rep) at firstname.lastname@example.org in confidence.
