Description

Welcome to the UoB Ramadan Project!

We are a volunteering group that aims to provide free/discounted meals for students during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The goal of our project is to provide educational resources and events about the Islamic Lunar month of Ramadan! We hope you will enjoy our Project, which aims to be an inclusive and open-minded environment in which people from all cultures and walks of life can learn about Ramadan. Our project group is open to people of all genders, ethnicities, and religions who would like to learn more about Ramadan and Islam!

We are delighted to describe ourselves as a close-knit group who look forward to all new members coming aboard. From the UoB Ramadan Project, you can expect not only educational events and resources but a chance to socialise and meet new people! There will be plenty of opportunities to meet us during Freshers and ReFreshers week, where you will have the chance to meet our wonderful committee and friendly members!

We aim to provide you with the opportunity to network and interact with like-minded people as you learn together about the meaning of Ramadan, perhaps you may find talented individuals who can provide you with advice towards your career goals!

What kinds of resources do we provide for you to learn about Ramadan?

We provide many resources and insightful conversations that help students to learn more about Ramadan, the most popular of which is our "Weekly Fasting Reminders" scheme, where we share one simple reminder a week with those who want to know more about Ramadan and fasting, such as the ones seen below! Please be sure to join our WhatsApp Fasting Reminders group chat if you are interested in receiving these reminders, but do note that at the moment this group chat is for females only.

Our work last year!

Last year we were not a project group yet, but instead, a small group of individuals with a strong desire to support fasting students through the month of Ramadan named Sawa in Janna.

Due to the pandemic, our open iftar - Taste Ramadan - was unfortunately canceled. However, we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to support our fasting Muslim students who couldn't make it back home or decided to stay in Bristol.

With the help of local charities such as the We Care Foundation and the Assahabaa Mosque, as well as fundraising through cake sales and lunchbox sales, we managed to provide meals for 8 days for around 25 students, providing a total of 185 free meals to students, the majority of which were cooked by a restaurant on campus. For those who were not able to pick up their. meals, we gave them the opportunity to order their meal from any restaurant, then refunded their receipts. We are proud to be able to say that we have supported all fasting financially struggling students with daily meals during Ramadan. Below are some images of our fundraising events as well as the meals we have provided to students.
