Description

The University of Bristol Squash Club

An Overview

Squash is the best sport out there! Yes, of course we'd say that but it really is perfect, particularly for those who have never tried it and are looking to play something new. Squash is fast-paced, a fantastic workout and a great social sport, not to mention being voted the world's healthiest sport by Forbes!

Our club has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with weekly socials, amazing student and professional coaches along with great players that are always keen to get on court and have some fun.

But don't take our word for it, we are very proud that over 97% of our members were "Very Satisfied" with our club last year, we are the 4th most successful Sports Club at Bristol University and the 5th best Squash Club in the whole of the UK!

Freshers Week

We keep our events page (located to the top left by our logo) up to date so you'll never miss out, however we are a very active club on social media platforms and find that this is a great way to communicate with our members.

For all the latest news, events, results, socials and everything inbetween follow us on...

  • Facebook - University of Bristol Squash Club

You can always reach us by email uob.squash@gmail.com or contact one of our committee members via our website (www.uobsquash.co.uk)

Be sure to catch us at this year's virtual Fresher's Fair on Wednesday 7th of October from 11am. Chat to the committee, ask questions, find out for yourself why you should play Squash. We very much look forward to meeting you all!

Attend our Club Sessions each Sunday run by our very own England Squash Uni Champions and be sure not to miss our famous weekly socials, take part in our Bristol and Avon District Box Leagues, book courts to play with your mates but most importantly have fun and feel part of a community of Squashies!

We want you to feel assured that the Club Membership we offer lives up to everything we promise however your safety is our Number 1 priority which is why all Club Memberships will include our **COVID-19 Guarantee**, for details on what this entails please look at the 'Terms and Conditions' at the bottom of this page.

Our Teams

The University of Bristol Squash Club has 9 teams spanning from top 8 in the UK to transitional teams for those new to team Squash. If you fancy being part of a team, competing weekly and representing your University whilst making lasting new friendships then look no further.

We have 4 women's teams (our womens numbers are one of the biggest in the country) who all compete in the BUCS leagues and 5 men's teams. 7 of our teams also compete in the prestigious Bristol and Avon District Squash Leagues. We experience success throughout our teams but the emphasis is on your wellbeing, making sure that you are supported and have a group of friends to train alongside in a safe and fun environment.

Coaching is provided on a weekly basis by Head Coach, Mark Toseland (MSc by Research at University of Gloucestershire) and all our team players will have the chance to complete a Personal Development Plan with either our Performance or Coaching Secretary.

If you are lucky enough to be highly skilled and play for our top teams then you will be asked to join our Performance Squad, you will recieve extra weekly training focusing on mentality, tactics and technique. You will also be expected to attend weekly Strength & Conditioning sessions and compete for the club at the various tournament we enter throughout the year.

Membership Explanations

We offer 3 membership types, Club, Team and Performance, for more details about what each membership costs and what it entitles you to, head either to the 'Terms and Conditions' at the bottom of the page or Click Here.

Socials

Each week our members get together to have some (non-Squash) related fun, themes, parties, sober socials, house crawls, fry ups are just some of the shenanigans that we get up to each Wednesday. Of course, we wouldn't be a Sports Club if we didn't end each Sports Night with a pilgrimage to one of Bristol's finest clubs to cut some Squash specific movements on the dance floor joined by 50 other sports clubs, not one to miss.

Each term we hold a formal meal where our usual kit gets swapped out for black tie and your favourite dinner dress, heads will turn as we strut our stuff in one of Bristol's finest culinary establishments. A chance to enjoy some amazing food and drink with all your Squash friends. We encourage all our members to attend as it really is a highlight of the year!

*Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee that socials will run as they have in the past due to current COVID-19 restrictions however we promise that our Social Secretaries are working hard to deliver an amazing and safe experience and in the meantime we hope that we can return to normality as soon as it is safe to do so.

Tour

On top of everything you've just read we also run an annual Squash Tour. We have been to places like Ayia Napa, Barcelona and Croatia in the past few years, this is an incredible experience to travel to somewhere new with your friends, experience some new culture and for many people, acts as the perfect end to an incredible year with the Squash Club.

We hope that what you have read is enough to convince you that Squash is the club for you, if you're ready to join all the fun, click "Join this Group" below, if for some reason you need more convincing or have questions about anything then get in touch via our social media, email our page (uob.squash@gmail.com) or visit our website (www.uobsquash.co.uk)
