COACHING AND TRAINING:

-We work with current GB coach Andy Bullock (220Triathlon Coach of the Year in 2008 and BTF Coach of the Year 2012) who leads our Monday pool and Thursday running sessions.

-Our spinning sessions at the gym are geared towards our specific triathlon needs.

-We also call upon the expertise of our own turbo-kid, Alex Matchett, who currently represents Wales and is on hand to pass on his knowledge.

-Swimming and running sets/advice is also given by some club members and university staff.

PENTATHLON

Unfortunately, due to a lack of outright interest from enough members, we regretfully cannot run/lead the pentathlon club this year. Keen pentathletes can of course continue to join the triathletes for the running and swimming training (Monday swim, Wednesday swim and Thursday, Sunday runs - see table above), but may be in need of contacting the relevant clubs/socieities for fulfilling the remaining 3 disicplines. We're very sorry for this, but hopefully we can revive it for coming years! If someone with a pentathlon background was interested in a committee role next year, it is something we'd love to discuss at this year's AGM in May.

FAQs:

Q. Which sports pass do I need?

A. Running- no need for any sports pass

Spinning- Minimum of 'Get Active' sports pass

Swimming- Minimum of 'Get Active' sports pass

Q. I'm not 100% sure if I want to join, can I try it out?

A. Of course, feel free to come along to each of our sessions once to experince the club and see if you like us. (You will)

Q. Do I need to have done a triathlon before?

 A. Absolutely not, in fact more than half of the members had not done a triathlon before they joined but were able to run/swim/cycle reasonably. Sadly we are not all semi pro's and many of us have only really got into it properly at uni.

Q. I don't have a bike, is this a problem?

A. Well, obviously on the day of the triathlon this would be helpful! But, you can still make most of the sessions per week without even owning a bicycle :-)

Q. I am a professional triathlete, am I too good for the club?

 A. No! To enter BUCS you will need to be part of the club, and also by being in the club you will have access to things like private lanes in the swimming pool which are ideal for a serious triathlete. Also, Andy Bullock our coach has been a GB triathlon coach so will definitely be able to help you.

Q. I am concerned you will all be very serious and because I have commitments to other sports and can't come to every session this will be frowned upon.

A. The days of angry P.E. teachers are over, nobody will chase you with a stick if you don't turn up to training. We understand that many people like to do lots of sports and are happy for you to be your own master! We enjoy partaking in wednesday night socials too and despite the nature of the sport, we are a relaxed and welcoming bunch!!

If you have any other questions at all, please don't hesitiate to email!
