Students sitting in a lecture theatre

Membership of Bristol SU

All students of the University of Bristol on registered programmes are automatically full members of the Students' Union. Your rights to be an automatic member were secured by NUS lobbying during the formation of the 1994 Education Act. If you do not wish to be a member of the Students' Union you have the right to withdraw your membership by emailing:

Being a full member of the union entitles you to full access to all of the activities, campaigns, events and services of the Students' Union, as well as the right to vote in our annual elections, referenda and other decision making bodies.

Are there other ways to join?

We currently offer four other levels of membership:

  • Annual Associate Membership - for non-students to access sports clubs and societies, services, events and facilities (£25 annual fee).
  • Honorary Annual Membership - for Bristol SU staff and Officers.
  • Volunteer Annual Membership - for non-students who are volunteering their time as a coach/instructor (Free of charge).
  • Honourary Life Membership - upon successful recommendation from clubs and societies or from Bristol SU staff and officers (Free of charge).

On occasion, student groups may wish to restrict their membership to Full Members (students) of Bristol SU only. This is usually because facilities or equipment are limited so the group wishes to prioritise student use.

See our Associate Membership page for more information and instructions on how to apply.
