What are the Sports Awards?

The Bristol SU Sports Awards are an awards night dedicated purely to recognising our amazing clubs, their committees and their coaches! This year the Sports Awards will be going digital and everyone is invited! The event took place on Wednesday 17 June and was broadcast live from the Bristol SU Facebook page. You can view the shortlisted nominations and winners below.

The categories explained

#WeAreBristol Club of the Year

This award recognises the achievements both on and off the field of any affiliated Bristol SU sports club. The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:

  • Sporting Success
  • A commitment to the wider sporting community
  • Innovative approaches to club growth (i.e. participation schemes)
  • Going above and beyond the normal day to day activities of a club
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Charitable Scheme of the Year

This award recognises a scheme or effort of an affiliated Bristol SU sports club to raise money for a charitable cause through any means. The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:

  • Significant money raised or time invested
  • Enterprising or innovative ideas
  • Engagement with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Lifetime Contribution Award

This award recognises the continued contribution of a member of an affiliated Bristol SU sports club both on and off the field. The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:

  • Sporting Success
  • A commitment to the wider sporting community
  • A commitment to matters off the field, such as coaching or club development
  • Continued roles on a club committee
  • Commitment to a number of different roles within the sporting community
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Most Improved Club

This award recognises the growth and development of any affiliated Bristol SU sports club. The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:
Sporting Success

  • Considerable growth in success
  • Considerable growth in other areas i.e. Development, recruitment, engagement etc
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Non-performance Team of the Year

This award recognises the achievements both on and off the field of any Sports team within an affiliated Bristol SU sports club that is not a Performance level club (i.e Kick-start and below). The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:

  • Sporting Success
  • A commitment to the wider sporting community
  • How the sports team presented themselves throughout the year (social media etc)
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Participation Drive of the Year

This award recognises a scheme or particular effort of an affiliated Bristol SU sports club to increase the participation levels of any group or students within their club outside of BUCS level players. The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:

  • Increased numbers of engaged students in your club
  • Innovative schemes or ideas that let more people try your sport
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Performance Team of the Year

This award recognises the achievements both on and off the field of any Sports team within an affiliated Bristol SU sports club that is a member of a Performance level club. The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:

  • Sporting Success
  • A commitment to the wider sporting community
  • How the sports team presented themselves throughout the year (social media etc)
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Sportsperson of the Year

This award recognises the sporting achievements of any member of an affiliated Bristol SU sports club both on and off the field. The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:

  • Sporting Success
  • A commitment to the wider sporting community
  • A commitment to matters off the field, such as coaching or club development
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Student Coach of the Year

This award recognises the achievements of any student in a coaching role at an affiliated Bristol SU sports club. The panel will look for (but not limited to) the following criteria:

  • Sporting Success
  • Proven commitment to a sporting team or club
  • Anything else you deem worthy

Student Staff Member of the Year

This award recognises the achievements of any student staff member working with affiliated Bristol SU sports clubs.
