Bristol Light Festival - Volunteer Call Out

Details Hide[-]

From Thursday 27th February – Sunday 1st March, between 5pm-11pm, Bristol Light Festival will showcase renowned international light artists alongside Bristol talent across eight carefully selected locations to create a trail through the city centre.

Bristol Light Festival will illuminate some unexpected locations as well as some of the city’s well-trodden paths including Castle Bridge, Millennium Square, Queen Square, Park Street and Trinity Steps on College Green. At each location, visitors will be able to see, experience and play with light art installations that are visiting the South West for the first time as well as brand-new installations created exclusively for the Bristol Light Festival

This is the first of a three-year series brought to you by Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID), supported by 760 local businesses, in partnership with Bristol City Council and The University of the West of England.  The Festival is being curated and produced by Bristol-based Creative Directors, Katherine Jewkes and Vashti Waite.

For our first edition we are looking for Festival Volunteers to work with us to help showcase Bristol City Centre.   In return we can offer an enriching training programme and an opportunity to be part of the fun of a welcoming and friendly festival that values kindness and generosity.

The Festival volunteer role is a vital public facing role and will include:
Being the friendly face of the festival
Wayfinding - offering advice, directions & information
Celebrating the presented artworks
Crowd management and safety
Gathering feedback to support evaluation
Reporting incidents & accidents
Coming up with ‘light’ puns

The role involves engaging with people to talk about the artworks on show, giving direction to local restaurants, bars, toilets and best routes whilst looking out for any hazards and keeping the production team informed of what is happening on the ground.

The volunteer is the friendly face of the festival family, and the most important person that can enhance the public's experience through knowledge of the artworks and a personal approach. We want to work with people who are positive and keen to celebrate the artworks and the areas where the works are presented.

The dates we need you to join the team are Thursday 27th Feb - Sunday 1st March 2020
Various shift times between (15:00 - 00:00pm each day).

There will be a training day/days before the festival dates, including a walk around the installations on Wednesday 26 February with the Bristol Light Festival Curatorial team.
