What is the Mentoring Scheme?

The IntoUniversity Mentoring Scheme works with young people from some of the UK’s most disadvantaged areas, supporting them to raise their aspirations and achieve their potential. By volunteering with us, you would help to ensure that the background young people are born into doesn’t affect their life chances. As a mentor, you would be paired up with a young person aged 10 to 17 years old who you would meet online once a fortnight and focus on a mixture of academic, social and future-focused activities. There will also be the opportunity to attend group mentoring events, and take part in Mentoring Graduation in the summer. This scheme provides an opportunity to have a significant impact on a young person's life while gaining valuable volunteering experience at the same time.

What does it involve?

• Attending an information and training session
• Meeting with your Mentee twice a month until the end of the academic year
• Planning mentoring sessions in advance, with the support of IntoUniversity staff
• Activities focus on academic work, social skills and future planning. This might include helping with homework, cooking or taking part in a group events

Who can apply?

The scheme is open to current students or those who have graduated in the last five years from the University of Bristol. You do not need previous experience working with children or young people, just a positive attitude and the ability to commit regularly to the scheme.
