SolidariTee is the largest student-led charity supporting the international assistance of refugees and asylum seekers. Specifically, SolidariTee makes grants to NGOs working with refugees, with a current focus on legal aid, and raises awareness of the crisis to foster a movement of solidarity with refugees.
At SolidariTee, we have a strong commitment to sustainability. We seek out the most innovative NGOs to support, and the most long-term ways of alleviating suffering in the refugee crisis. At the moment, we’ve decided to commit ourselves to funding legal aid. Living in a refugee camp is extremely difficult: everything is put on hold. The conditions are harsh, with prostitution, violence, and drugs rife. The mental and physical health of the inhabitants suffer the longer they live in this limbo. Many of the injustices that asylum seekers and refugees face come about largely as a result of their existence in a legal grey area. Legal processes are complicated and need guidance. If each asylum seeker and refugee had access to legal aid, less people would be living in camps, having already started their new lives with refugee status, or having been resettled to a different country, or having been reunited with their family abroad. The pressure upon the camps and accommodation would be lessened.
A key part of our work is also raising awareness: we fight to keep conversations about the crisis in our media. Over the past few years, media coverage on the refugee crisis has dramatically decreased. SolidariTee strives to keep the conversation alive and combats the normalisation of false narratives.
SolidariTee brings people together in a world-wide movement.
We will not stay silent.
Being a head rep means heading up the face of SolidariTee at your university, being an anchor for your team and overseeing the fundraising of thousands of pounds! You’ll be in charge of recruiting at least 15 representatives to work with, distributing their shirts, and overseeing their sales - organising events too is very much encouraged, and you will receive support and guidance if you choose to do so. You will benefit from access to our social media, our fundraising expertise and our national network of head reps. No prior experience is required, but it is important that you remain responsive and responsible as you will be overseeing large amount of stocks while managing your reps.
Without reps, SolidariTee wouldn't be able to function. Being a rep entails selling 20 shirts, meaning you will be raising crucial money that goes to legal aid for refugees. No prior experience is necessary, but we do ask that all reps commit to selling the shirts they have been allocated. Reps will benefit from the support structure through the head rep system, as well our custom written selling guides and calls with the national team.
