Volunteer to help prevent sexual abuse
As a Volunteer in a Circle of Support and Accountability (‘Circle’), you’ll make an important contribution to preventing sexual abuse by helping reduce the risk of further sexual harm by a known perpetrator.
A Circle is a small group of carefully trained and selected Volunteers who meet regularly with an individual who has been convicted of sexual offences (or with harmful sexual behaviour). Volunteers hold the individual to account for their behaviour and support their safe reintegration into the community. They work closely with the responsible statutory organisations.
We are now recruiting for the following exciting new volunteering opportunities:
We welcome adult Volunteers from all walks of life who are approachable, emotionally stable and have a mature outlook. The ability to maintain firm boundaries is essential. You will need to commit around 2 hours per week for 12-18 months. We provide full training, ongoing professional support and reimburse expenses. Appointment is dependent on satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS Check. We are particularly interested in recruiting men who are currently under-represented.
We are recruiting for 3 projects in the Bristol/Avon area:
Young People's Project - working with young people between the ages of 14-17 who have sexually harmed but may not have been convicted. This project is more activity-based and gives volunteers a chance to make a real difference in a young person's life.
Intellectual Disabilites Project - working with adults with mild intellectual disabilities who have sexually harmed. You will need to be patient but have firm boundaries and be mindful to the fact that this group is vulnerable themselves.
Prison Project - working with 'Core Members' before they are released and then continuing the work in the community. You will need daytime availability and your own transport and be prepared to travel.
It would be helpful if you could indicate which project you are most interested in when enquiring.
Minimum commitment level: Once a week
Start Date: 18-12-2017
