Wednesday Activity Volunteer

Details Hide[-]

The Hive Avon is looking for enthusiastic, friendly volunteers to help at our Wednesday afternoon drop-in session.

Purpose: to support adults with learning disabilities and/or autism in a social environment to increase confidence and self-esteem, build independence, and reduce social isolation.

Activities: we provide a range of activities that people can either choose to be involved in, or simply attend and socialise with friends. Volunteers and staff provide support where needed.

Skills Required: skills in listening and the ability to communicate well with diverse types of people are essential. The ability to be patient, enthusiastic, and non-judgemental is also important. Experience with learning disabilities/autism is not essential, and training will be provided.

Hours and Timescale: 12:30pm-4pm Wednesdays; one session at the drop-in either weekly or fortnightly, ideally for a minimum of six months. Flexible volunteering can be offered; however, it is essential that volunteers attend the sessions they are scheduled for to ensure the safe running of the drop-in.

Benefits: volunteers receive initial induction and awareness training in learning disablity/autism, as well as receive ongoing training and supervision. Full liability insurance is in place. Mileage and other out-of-pocket expenses can be claimed. A work record will be kept for each volunteer so that we are able to provide references if requested. Social events are held throughout the year for our volunteers.
