*drivers pls read the extra information at the bottom*
UBMC is going to Fontainebleau!!!
Widely regarded as one of the best bouldering crags in the world, Font is home to over 20,000 boulders ranging in grade from quite litterally 1a to 9a. It is rightfully considered a mecca of the climbing world, and should be high on everybodies ticklist to visit at least once. We will be staying in mobile homes in Le Cattiuax Campsite (https://www.lecattiauxcamping.fr/), which are fully equipped with cooking appliances, fridge, shower etc. UBMC's first international trip of the year will take place during reading week of TB2 (23rd February - 1st March, 6 nights & 5 1/2 days of climbing).
Tickets include the cost of transport for the entire trip (incl. the channel crossing), as well as accomodation while we're out there. While the price is undeniably higher than a weekend trip around the UK, for a weeklong international vacation it is still incredibly good value. Payment will need to be made to the UBMC bank account IMMEDIATELY when you purchase a ticket, or your ticket will be invalid and we'll resell it.
All you'll need is a valid passport, your climbing shoes + chalk, plenty of warm clothes and even more psyche :). Drivers will be in contact with you for your details once all the tickets have been sold in order to book the ferry crossing (passport details will be required before travelling, but not at the time of booking I'm pretty sure).
If you have any questions feel free to email or text me directly, or message on the whatsapp groupchat. I look forward to seeing you all there!!
Leo.
For Drivers:
Each car will take 4 people (including the driver). So even if you have a 5 person car, you'll take 4, and if you have a 4 person car you'll take 4. The cost of the ferry crossing, french motorway tolls and fuel will all be reimbursed by the club. The journey involves driving from Bristol - Dover (about 4 hrs), from Calais - Font (about 4 hrs again), around Font while we're there and back again. I estimate it'll be about 1300 miles of driving, and you will have to drive on the RIGHT HAND SIDE of the road while we're in France. Not that that should be an inhibitory factor, but it is worth considering before buying a ticket. As I mentioned before, once all the tickets have been sold you'll need to book a specific ferry crossing for you car - I'll send the details on a gc.
