Student Community Organisers

We are paid student leaders who connect communities, drive change, and ensure diverse voices shape the student experience.

Responsibilities

Student Community Organisers are expected to arrange meetings with various student communities, facilitate discussions to identify issues in the student body, and explore potential solutions.

As community organising is rooted in collaboration, their role also involves actively connecting communities across campus, especially those experiencing similar challenges.

As drivers of change, organisers ensure their work reflects the nuanced experiences of marginalised students, making campaigns and solutions inclusive, thoughtful, and impactful.

Who are we?

AIMEE MASSARA

Hi! I’m Aimee I’m a 3rd year chemistry student and when I’m not stuck working on pre-labs and post-labs I’ll be sewing, doing yoga or showjumping. I grew up in Cambridge but Bristol now has my heart, you’ll find me anywhere where there’s a latte and I’m always happy to have a chat!

WENDY SUN

Hi, I'm Wendy, a biology student who enjoys connecting people and gathering voices. I ran for Community Organiser and look forward to building a friendly and diverse environment for communities. Besides dinosaurs and zoology, I'm also keen on music, travelling and video shooting! Can't wait to meet all of you!

LOTTIE SHAW

Hi, I'm Lottie (they/them)! I ran for Student Community Organiser as I am already an active member of the SU and wanted to do more with my connections to help other students like me. I am studying Engineering Maths, but I also adore theatre and spend most of my time getting involved with all the performing arts societies we have!

SHREYA VISWANATHAN

Hi, I’m Shreya, your Global Majorities Community Organiser! I am from a little city in India called Bangalore, and I'm now studying data science. I love discovering more about my own culture as well as others’ (you’ll never catch me not wearing my jhumkas). I also love thrifting, reading, and meeting new people so do come say hi :)

SIÂN CLARKE

Hi, I'm Siân Clarke, one of your Student Community Organisers. I ran for this role to hopefully bring different groups in the Student Community together, and to uplift marginalised voices. I'm going into my 3rd year studying Ancient History, and when I'm not in the Archaeology building, I'm helping run the student newspaper, in an art gallery, or volunteering for a local charity.

SANDALI WICKRAMASINGHE

Hey I'm Sandali, currently a second year Neuroscience student. I'm so excited to bring everyone together through my Student Community Organiser role! I'm very enthusiastic about awareness campaigns and human rights (and music and summer and beaches). I'm from the coolest island ever: Sri Lanka!!

How to get involved

  1. Think about the student communities that you are a part of, are there any important issues that need addressing? If so, why not get in touch with our Student Community Organisers. There may be other groups across campus experiencing similar issues, and we can build power by taking a joined-up approach to action!
  2. Student Community Organisers can bid for campaign funding through Bristol SU’s democratic spaces, like Student Representative Assembly. If you’ve got a campaign idea that could make a positive difference for students, Community Organisers are here to help bring it to life from shaping the plan to supporting with funding.
  3. Keep an eye out on the Student Community Organiser webpage for any ‘House Meeting’ announcements. House meetings are a space for you to meet other students and discuss in collaboration the issues that your community is facing. This space is solution driven, with discussions feeding up to how student communities can work together to solve or alleviate the issues they are experiencing.
  4. You can find all active campaigns on the Student Community webpage. Check in for updates on their progress and see if there’s a project you’d like to get involved with. It’s a great way to make a real difference in student life, and you’ll also strengthen your Bristol Skills Profile along the way.
