Bob Nicholls is a multi-award-winning and globally respected palaeo-reconstruction artist, who has dedicated his life to understanding and depicting the life appearance of prehistoric animals and environments. He began drawing prehistoric animals from the moment he was old enough to hold a pencil and today he has twenty-five years professional experience. He has co-authored multiple scientific papers, and his artworks have been published in more than forty books and exhibited in dozens of museums, universities, and visitor attractions throughout the world. Bob has also appeared on radio, podcasts, and on camera many times, including live broadcasts on BBC2 and BBC4 television programmes.
In the first half of this talk, Bob will talk about his early influences, his development from an obsessive hobbyist to a professional freelance palaeoartist and his two- and three-dimensional art workflows. The second half is a walk through the inside-out palaeo-reconstruction process (fossils to skeleton, to soft tissues, to integument and behaviour), featuring Archaeopteryx and Psittacosaurus. The talk will end with a sneak peek at a few new artworks not yet published or exhibited anywhere else – some Bristol DinoSoc exclusives!
