Housing Advice Service

In Need of Emergency Accommodation?

The University Accommodation Office provides short-term emergency accommodation to current students.

Situations where you might need to stay in emergency accommodation include:

  • a fire, flood or similar that means you cannot remain in your usual accommodation.
  • a concern that your safety is at risk if you stay in your usual accommodation.

Please visit the University Emergency Accommodation website for more information.

Welcome to the Housing Advice Service

The Bristol SU Housing Advice team offers free, independent, and confidential housing advice for students at the University of Bristol.

The service is here to help you feel more confident while renting, and to ensure you understand your rights and responsibilities as a tenant. The team can support you with housing problems that you might experience as a student, no matter where you are living while at university.

So far, the team has given free, independent and confidential advice on a range of topics, including:

  • Tenancy agreements and licences
  • Emergencies and scams
  • Moving out of your home
  • Finding housemates and accommodation
  • Bills and finance
  • Maintenance and repairs

If we can’t help you, we’re confident that we can put you in touch with someone else who can!

You can contact the team and request support by submitting an enquiry form. One of our Housing Advisors will get back to you via email with relevant information and resources, and offer you an appointment to provide additional support, if needed.

If you've used our service, then we'd love to hear your feedback.

Drop-ins

There is a  weekly drop-in on Wednesdays at Bristol SU Lettings on Tyndall Avenue, from 1pm-3pm. Here you  speak to an advisor, and find out more about the services we provide through these quick conversations. If we think you need extra more personal support, you will be asked to  complete the enquiry form, where you can have an appointment with a Housing Advisor.

Appointments

If the issue you’re experiencing is more complex, we’ll offer you an appointment with one of our Housing Advisors. These meetings usually last around 45 minutes, and we’ll use the time to talk about your concerns, and your ideal outcome. Any advice given or resources mentioned during the meeting will also be sent to you afterwards via email, and if needed, we can book an additional appointment for further in-person support.
