Junior Common Room committee members are elected students, that form a committee with the purpose to improve the overall student experience in halls. 

This is your chance to do one of the best volunteer roles at the university. You'll be able to decide what the biggest events of the year look like for your hall of residence.

Want to run a trip to watch Bristol City? You can.
Want to host a fancy formal? You can.
Want a beautiful summer barbecue? You can.

There are three positions in a JCR committee: PresidentVP Finance and VP Events. These are some of the most important student roles at the uni – it’s your chance to be a central part of building community in your halls, as well as building your CV.

It's a role that you can shape, and that only takes a couple of hours each week. But the rewards are huge and you'll have support every step of the way from the Student Communities team.

Time Commitment

Junior Common Room spend an average of 2-3 hours per week on their role, though this may fluctuate. This includes a few fixed time commitments;

  • Monthly meetings with the Student Communities team (term time only)
  • Training (Half-day training 15 Oct)
  • Free Welcome Dinner (25 Oct)
  • Visit to Metro Bank (for VP Finance)

Time commitment before election:

  • Prep manifesto and submit campaign photo (1-2 hour)
  • Sign and submit pre-agreement, acknowledging understanding of role (30 minutes)
