Welcome to Bristol Uni Athletics & Cross Country Club!!

Whether you’re a first-time jogger or an international athlete, this is the club for you! We’re a student-led club catering to all abilities of distance runner, sprinter, jumper, or thrower. We take pride in being a very inclusive and welcoming club with sessions for everyone, from relaxed, chatty social runs to structured distance performance and sprint training sessions. We also offer circuit strength and conditioning sessions and even a weekly swimming session - perfect for building strength, preventing injury and adding variety to your training. On the socials side, again, we have something for everyone! From exciting Wednesday evening socials that end with a club night out to frequent wholesome post-run coffees and brunches, there are plenty of opportunities to make friends and be part of the UBACCC community.

Competitions:

We run frequent trips to competitions all over the UK, so you’ll get loads of opportunities to compete! From muddy, hilly cross-country races to indoor and outdoor track meets, fancy dress fun runs to national championships, there’s something for everyone! Our Highlights include...

  • BUCS (XC, Indoors, Outdoors)
    • Arguably the three biggest events on the UBACCC calendar in which we compete against all of the other British Universities! Usually also involves a weekend away and post-event social!
  • Manchester Relays
    • The first race and social of the academic year and not one to miss - a 3km XC relay race against other universities, followed by a massive curry and night out with the other unis. Expect mud, lots of face paint and crazy shenanigans!
  • Gwent League
    • One of the largest cross-country leagues in the UK, with over 60 clubs across South Wales and South West England competing. An opportunity for some brilliant competition with all abilities racing from beginners to international athletes.
  • The Sodbury Slog
    • An extremely popular 10-mile XC race that’s more of a mud bath and entails compulsory themed fancy dress (and the post-race flapjacks are always top-tier). Followed by a traditional post-slog pub trip.

Socials:

A great way to get involved with the club and make amazing friends! Including:

  • Wednesday Sports Night
  • The James Thompson Beer Mile - named after our very own alumni JT, who finished 7th in the World Championships and is the European record holder in this event. 4 pints, 4 laps.
  • Ogmore - a lovely beach trip held after exams in the summer term involving a social run along the Welsh cliffs followed by a dip in the sea and a BBQ on the beach.
  • Brecon Beacons - a wholesome weekend filled with running, hiking and boardgames in a remote hostel in the depths of the Welsh countryside.
  • Warm Weather Training - during Easter break we head to sunny Spain to get some warm weather training in and spend time in the sun on the beach!
