Seismic Analysis in Nuclear Projects

Donald Freeke, EDF’s chief civil engineer for nuclear new build projects in the UK, will give an engineer’s perspective on seismic analysis.

He will consider some of the basic principles for engineers and draw on his experience of working on the Hinkley Point C and Sizewell Point C nuclear power plant projects.

While trying to keep the maths to a minimum, Donald will cover the approach to defining an appropriate seismic input, some of the analysis options, and the important differences between them.

He will focus on some key principles that any practicing seismic engineer should be aware of, using simple terms that can be readily understood and remembered.

While Donald's experience is as a civil engineer, the key learnings will be equally applicable to other engineering disciplines involved with seismic analysis.
