Bristol SU recognises that the costs of participating in student groups can be prohibitively expensive for some students. The Activity Hardship Fund was created to support those students who wouldn't otherwise be able to participate in their chosen activity due to the cost.
We also welcome those interested in STEM, or students looking for a community that upholds similar values.
Membership is open to all students, regardless of background and discipline.
Our free membership is designed to eliminate barriers to entry, ensuring that every interested student has the opportunity to be part of BSTEM.
At BSTEM, our strategy is centered around empowering students within the Global Majority in the STEM field. We achieve this through impactful outreach, engaging social events, and informative seminars.
Throughout the academic year, we host sessions featuring accomplished Black individuals who have made significant contributions to the field. These professionals will share their personal journeys, challenges, and triumphs, providing valuable insights of a career in STEM.. By connecting our members with successful role models, we aim to instill a sense of possibility and purpose.
Navigating the transition from university to the professional world can be overwhelming. To address this, we plan to organize seminars that provide practical guidance on securing internships and gaining hands-on experience. We will collaborate with industry experts, career counselors, and alumni to deliver informative workshops on resume building, interview preparation, and networking strategies.
3. Engaging Social Events
Building a strong community is essential. We host a variety of engaging social events, from game and movie nights to a simple hangout with pizza.. These events provide an opportunity for
our members to connect on a personal level, fostering friendships and a supportive network within the society.
4. Local Outreach Activities
To actively encourage students within the Global Majority to consider STEM careers as viable career paths, we organise local outreach activities. This involves inviting students to the university and providing them the opportunity to witness captivating STEM demonstrations. Furthermore, we actively participate in open day events. These occasions offer a prime opportunity to engage with prospective students. By sharing our experiences, showcasing our society's initiatives, and addressing any concerns, we aim to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that motivates students to choose STEM.
