About Us

The University of Bristol Association Football Club (UBAFC) is one of the largest, most sociable and most successful clubs at the university.

With over 100 members across 6 teams all playing BUCS Football, UBAFC members compete weekly and to great effect; the 2019/20 Season saw us ranked as the 6th best university for Men's Football in the United Kingdom.

Our matches take place on Wednesday afternoons - home games are played at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex whilst away games are against other university sides in the West of England. Travel expenses to away games are covered by the membership fee paid at the start of the season.

All players train two times a week at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex on a combination of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; this depends on which team they are in and which two nights the team they are in are training on. Specific training times will be confirmed nearer to the start of the 2023/24 Season.

Trials

Given the number of people that wish to play football and join UBAFC, it is important that we hold trials to determine which players are good enough to join the club and play at university level.

Throughout the academic year, we hold two sets of trials - one at the start and one halfway through. Dates for these trials will be confirmed nearer to the start of term, and will be posted on our Instagram @ubafcofficial. At this moment in time we are aiming to hold the first set of trials in late September, with the second set in late January. The best way to stay up to date with all of the details is to follow our socials.

If you fail to get into the club at the first trial, do not lose confidence - the trial process is by no means perfect and a number of current UBAFC members failed to get into the club at the first attempt. The second trial halfway through the season is open to all and provides a great opportunity for another cohort of students to join the club.

Alternatively, if you don't pass the trial process and wish to play football in a different capacity, there is a fantastic Intramural football set-up at the university with over 50 teams and 500 players descending on the Downs weekly. To find out more about Intramural football, follow the attached link (https://www.bristolsu.org.uk/intramural/football)

Socials

As alluded to earlier, the social aspect of being a member of UBAFC is a massive selling point.

Every Wednesday, our members head to Zed Alley - a bar in Bristol which shows live football, offers fantastic offers on drinks and allows us to socialise as a whole club after the day's matches .

After this, we head to Gravity for Sports Night; the format of this night out is widely-loved and one that new club members very quickly become familiar with!

Membership

The cost of membership gives you access to two training sessions a week, transport to and from games, strength and conditioning sessions available to your squad and the general joy of being a part of the club!

Membership fees for the 2023/24 Season are yet to be finalised but they are likely to be similar to the fees we charged for the 2022/23 Season listed below:

  • Full Membership - £200
  • Half-Season Membership - £90
  • Social Membership - £30

Full Membership fees are paid by all players who are a part of the club from the start of the season whilst Half-Season Membership fees are paid by those who join the club at the 2nd set of trials held halfway through the academic year.

The Social Membership fee is offered by invitation only and is usually for players injured for the full season or former players who are unable to play any longer but wish to stay involved.
