Description

Welcome to the University of Bristol Women's Football Club!

UBWFC is for all women attending the University of Bristol who have an interest in football. We invite women of all standards and previous experience; all we require in return is commitment, teamwork and a passion for the beautiful game!

This page has lots of information on the club, but if you are interested in joining UBWFC this year and want to stay up to date with all the action, please follow us on Instagram @ubwfc. All social media links can be found at the bottom of the page.

UBWFC is one of the largest University Women’s Football Clubs in the UK, with six squads and a proud record of success. With membership numbers growing every year, this is an exciting opportunity to get involved and become a valued part of our community.

Our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th teams play in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues, competing against other universities every Wednesday.

  • The 1st Team are one of the most successful university sides in the country, winning the BUCS Southern Premier League in both 2022/23 and 2024/25. They proudly represented Great Britain at the 2023 European Universities Championships in Tirana, Albania, and were named Team of the Year at the 2023 Bristol SU Sports Awards.

  • The 2nd Team and 3rd Team both compete in Western 2B, with the 2nd Team finishing runners-up last season.

  • The 4th Team, who joined BUCS in 2023/24, compete in Western 3B.

The demand for competitive football continues to grow, and in 2023/24 we introduced our 5th Team to bridge the gap between our Development Squad and BUCS teams. They play 11-a-side friendlies against other universities, including Oxford and LSE.

For those new to the game, our Development Squad offers a fun, welcoming environment to socialise and keep fit. They play 7-a-side fixtures in the Bristol Women’s Football Casual League, with matches roughly every three weeks.

As an inclusive, forward-thinking club with a professional ethos, UBWFC is well respected both across the University and on the national stage. Whether you’re an experienced player or completely new to football, we have a place for you. If you’re enthusiastic, want to meet friendly faces, and get involved on and off the pitch, we’d love to hear from you!

Equality Statement

UBWFC is an open, inclusive, and welcoming club for all women — including transgender and non-binary individuals* — studying at the University of Bristol. We are committed to creating a diverse environment that celebrates and encourages participation from people of all races, ethnicities, sexualities, and gender identities.

UBWFC is dedicated to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainability within our club and community. We actively work to lower our carbon footprint by encouraging cycling, car sharing for away matches, recycling, and the use of reusable bottles.

In 2023, we also planted a tree on The Downs — a lasting symbol of our commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future.
