Looking for a lowkey, yet fun and engaging society to join? Wanting to make meaningful connections? Then the Penfriends Society will be perfect for you!
WHAT DO THE PENFRIENDS SOCIETY DO?
We are a society centred around penpalling, the hobby of letter correspondence! We host letter writing and letter decorating socials, and a wide range of activities to let your crafty side free including postcard decorating, calligraphy workshops, and paper crafting events!
When you join the society, you will be able to join our Whatsapp group designed to provide a space to look for penpals within the university, as well as provide resources to look for penpals beyond, nationally or internationally, allowing you to meet like minded people without the awkwardness or anxiety that can come with face-to-face introductions.
WHY PENPALLING?
One of the main reasons to give penpalling a go is the ability to connect with people who match your vibe without draining your social battery, overwhelming anxiety, or filling up your calender to attend late night socials! It also allows you to build a connection with someone really uniquely and intimately through handwritten letters and handcrafted or hand selected gifts, adding a special touch to your friendship! You can also write and send penpal letters to friends and family abroad, maintaining a special connection through letter writing!
It’s also a chance to develop new skills like learning languages, or develop existing skills like expanding your vocabulary or improving your handwriting! Penpalling is also great to take time away from the screen, meditate and be present when writing!
IS IT FOR ME?
YES! The Penfriends Society welcomes everyone to make the most out of penpalling! No matter you background, year of study and everything in between, we will have something for you! If you want to:
