Description

Pitstop

WHO WE ARE:

Welcome to Pitstop! We are an award-winning society who take teenagers with learning disabilities on day trips in and around the Bristol area.

Pitstop buddies you up with one of the teenagers for the day. It gives you the chance to make a real difference to a young person’s life, and improve your communication and care skills. Becoming a member is very low commitment (you can attend as many of the 4-5 trips a year as you would like) and completely free for both volunteers and members. Usually once members have come once, they always come back to volunteer on more of our trips! No previous experience is required, just be prepared to have a great time!

In the last few years, we have organised some amazing trips - taking us to Bristol Zoo, the Bristol Hippodrome, Cribbs Causeway, the Aquarium, and even Chessington World of Adventures. There’s a huge emphasis on fun and new experiences, so if you have energy and enthusiasm then join our mailing list using the link below, sign up to become a member and we will be in touch with future opportunities and plans.

Parents of Pitstop members have said "Pitstop provides so much for both those attending and the families who see the joy and happiness the events can bring". Another said "Pitstop has been game changing for my daughter...it gives her the opportunity to meet great role models through the students". As much as these parents rely on Pitstop - we rely on student volunteers! Join us to keep the Pitstop magic going!

Pitstop won both the SU Volunteering Society Award and The National Societies & Volunteering Community Award.

COVID-19:

COVID-19 has impacted Pitstop in the past few years, in that we were unable to run any in-person trips initially and they were all hosted online. However, in the last two academic years we were thankfully able to run trips almost as normal and to keep Pitstop going. Going forward, we will continue to make sure all guidelines are followed to ensure the safety of members and volunteers.
