Assisted Dying: A Deeper Look into Life, Suffering and Care

PLEASE ENSURE YOU WALK WITH YOUR UCARD AND HAVE BOOKED A TICKET FOR THIS EVENT.

Join us for an insightful talk by Deacon Denis Deasey, who has almost a decade of experience providing pastoral and spiritual care at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, particularly within the Palliative Care Unit. Drawing on his extensive experience supporting individuals and families during end-of-life care, Deacon Deasey will explore the critical role of palliative care as an alternative to assisted dying.

This talk will delve into the ethical, medical, and social implications of assisted dying, with a focus on the implementation of the 2024 Assisted Dying Bill. Deacon Deasey will discuss its impact on patients, healthcare providers, and society, including the practical and moral challenges it presents. Attendees will also hear real-life accounts from his work as a chaplain, offering a compassionate perspective on the care and dignity of patients at the end of their lives.

Additionally, Deacon Deasey will highlight opportunities for students to volunteer at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, where they can make a meaningful difference by offering companionship and support to patients.

We welcome individuals from all backgrounds and perspectives to engage in this vital discussion about life, suffering, and care at its most profound moments.
