Sports Diver Training 2025/26 (Round 1)
For people who are already Ocean Divers (or equivalent with a different agency) looking to take on the next diving grade. This qualification enables you (once qualified) to progress your depth down to 40m, teaches enhanced rescue skills, and teaches you to use equipment required in more adventurous diving. Eligibility:

You must already hold a diving quallification of BSAC Ocean Diver or equivalent. recognised equivalent qualifications can be found here.

Be medically fit by either self-certifying by answering 'no' to all questions on this form or by getting a diver medical exam. Please contact Lewis Hope (Diving Officer) if you are unsure if you are medically fit to dive.

Be able to swim 200m continously.

You must have a high level of English language proficiency.
Costs:
+ Variable - Trip costs including petrol and dive site fees which are calculated after each trip. There are some pieces of kit that you need to buy yourself. As well as Kit hire as you complete training - Details can be found here. For example, a regulator, BCD, and cylinders will cost £8 per day.
Course Commitments:
- Six Theory Lectures
- One Theory Exam
- One Theory Resit (for those who fail more than one section in the initial exam)
- One Practical Basic Life Support
- One Pool Session
- Five Open Water Sessions
All theory lectures, exams and the Basic Life Support are to be held on Thursday evenings (Time TBD). There will not be a theory session during Reading Week. The pool sessions will be on a Saturday evenings (Time TBD). We will confirm an exact schedule shortly. Open water sessions can be completed on club trips or specific training trips. These are usually on weekends, through easter, or over the summer. You must be able to commit to these sessions to complete training and be willing to join club trips.
To complete the course it is important that you are willing to join the sessions you are signing up for. We will provide every opportunity for you to complete training throughout the year. All lessons are assessed against skills performance standards which sometimes means students require more lessons than specified to complete the course. If you do not complete the training within the academic year, then you can continue in the next, however, you will be required to purchase an annual membership for UBUC and BSAC.

Union Terms and Conditions
General Terms and Conditions
- Bristol SU operates ticket purchasing for multiple events at venues across the city. These terms and conditions only apply where they are not superseded by an event promoter or a particular venue’s terms and conditions.
- We don't sell tickets through secondary ticket sites. Sometimes tickets are sold through partners, but this will be stated. A ticket purchased from secondary ticket sites or from ticket touts will not be valid, and Bristol SU accepts no liability for refunds.
- Admission to all events is subject to the restrictions employed by the host venue.
- Students must bring their University of Bristol UCard to every event they wish to attend for identification purposes – UCard ID is not valid as proof of age, for any event that is 18+ photo ID is also required. For members of the public, photo ID will be required (e.g., passport, driving licence, proof of age card).
- Re-admission is not typically allowed once you have attended an event, unless approved by the manager on duty.
- Right of admission is reserved by the venue management, and their decision is final. We have a zero-tolerance policy on Racism, Sexism, Ageism, Homophobia, Transphobia, Ableism, or any other form of discrimination. Harassment, aggression, or intimidating behaviour will not be tolerated.
- Your UCard is not transferrable – you cannot lend it to anyone else to get into the venue.
- All events are restricted to AGE 18+ unless specifically noted on the event page. All guests are required to provide proof of age if asked by the door staff, and entry can be refused without it. Bristol students who forget their UCard will also need proof of age. UK Law states that valid proof of age are valid passport, photo driving license or proof of age card such as PASS card bearing the PASS hologram.
- We may use the email address you provide when purchasing tickets to give you updates about your purchase, event details, or request feedback after the event.
Refunds
*** Please note that this is standard practice at every entertainments venue in the UK. ***
ALL TICKETS ARE NONREFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERRABLE. All sales are final. Refunds are not available on tickets once purchased, including those bought in error or in cases of illness or injury. However, refunds may be given in the following cases:
- The entire event is cancelled by the promoter or Bristol SU. Refunds are available to everyone who has purchased a ticket in advance.
- The event is postponed to another date which the ticket holder cannot attend. The ticket holder must opt in to a refund within 7 days of notification or before the event date, whichever is sooner.
- The main performing artist has cancelled or the event is significantly altered for reasons beyond our control, but the event still took place.
- Refunds will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
In all instances, the duty manager’s decision will be final.
Day Trips
- The event has sold out, and there is a waiting list. In this instance, refunds may be given and the tickets resold to people on the waiting list. We do not operate this system for events other than Day Trips.
Transfer Policy
- All tickets for Bristol SU events are non-transferrable and are assigned exclusively to your account.
- In instances where buying multiple tickets is available then you may send your ticket to a trusted friend to use on your behalf. Our systems detect duplicate tickets, so only send your ticket to one person to avoid them being turned away.
- Do not buy from secondary ticket outlets, as it is usually a scam.
Physical Ticket Replacements
- For events with physical tickets or wristbands, it is the responsibility of the individual purchaser to keep their ticket/wristband safe once collected. Replacement tickets will not be issued in the event of loss or damage, and will need to be repurchased.
Filming, Photography and Broadcast
- During events, the SU may broadcast live, take photographs, or record videos to be used for SU marketing and editorial purposes. Media may appear on the SU website, social media, and other publications.
- If you have concerns about appearing in photographs, film, or live broadcasts, please contact bristolsu-marketing@bristol.ac.uk in advance, and we will do our best to comply with your wishes.
Accessibility
- The Richmond Building and Senate House are fully wheelchair accessible. For events in external venues please check the host venue website for most up to date guidance on accessibility.
- During busy times, such as Welcome Week, quiet or sensory rooms are available. Please see signs at the venue or ask a member of staff.
- PA/Carer/Companion Tickets are available free of charge for all events. Please email bristolsu-events@bristol.ac.uk in advance of the event. These tickets are subject to availability (e.g. for day trip events there are limited seats on a coach).
- Staff can be identified by their light blue t-shirts if you need any support at an event.
- Some events may use smoke machines, strobe lights, or other special effects. Please alert staff if you have any concerns.
Covid-19
- You should not attend events if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or are feeling unwell.
