FILM SOC - UoB's Home of Film!
At Film Soc, we offer something for everyone, whether you're a fan of arthouse cinema or blockbuster hits. We believe in creating a diverse space for people who enjoy films to be able to share that passion with other people that are just the same. Film Soc is ran by a group of people who share that passion, and run several events to let it thrive.
The main attraction is the screenings, which take place biweekly. As a member, you'll be able to take part and make your voice heard through our most popular event, the weekly Member's Vote Screenings! Every week, all of our members get the opportuity to vote on a themed selection of films - the winner of which gets put on the big screen! But this is just one type of screening we offer - both the Commitee Pick Screening and the newly introduced Member's Pick Screening rotate round on a weekly basis of their own, giving members several oppurtunities to enjoy some good films. After each screening, we make it an informal tradition to go to the pub as a society and host a discussion about what we just watched - opening up that space to share opinions.
There's much more to FilmSoc than just screenings though - this year our socials are getting a revamp, with a good mix of pub quizzes, nights out, trips to the cinema, and more, they'll be something to do every week. We are very excited to introduce a new kind of social this year too, for those less interested in late-night or alcoholic meets, a Film Chat, in the day time, an open space for lovers of cinema to share literally anything they've been interested in, or outraged by recently in the world of cinema.
Entering this year, there's even more on the horizon that FilmSoc has in store, but we'll announce that at a society event later down the line...
We do offer a yearly £3 membership, which helps support our activities and enables us to host even more amazing events. Plus, as a member, you'll enjoy free access to our pub quizzes, which normally have a £2 entry fee.
