Six Apps you Need as a Bristol Student!

So, you’re preparing for university. But, what apps will you need as a Bristol student?

Take a look at this article to find out which six apps will help you out from the get-go!

1. The University of Bristol App 📱

The UOB App will be your answer to so many uni-related questions and queries! From what's on your timetable to how you can access key services, it's got it all and will help you make the most out of Bristol from the get-go. You can download the app from Google Play or the App Store!

  • Find a computer, room or study space 🖥️

2. University of Bristol Sport

This handy little app has all the information you need about being active at uni.

Maybe you want to know how to book a sports activity, pay for a membership on the go, check live fitness timetables, or just access lots of useful advice and guidance.

Whatever it is, you can get all physical activity and sport-related info in your pocket by downloading the app here! It's free on both Apple and Android.

3. Authenticator App 💻

Once you get to uni, it'll soon become clear that you need an authenticator app. But what is it?

Everyone at Bristol uni needs to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) on their University account. It's a great way to add an additional layer of security to your account.

You'll be able to set MFA up the first time you use your uni name and password to log in. From then on, after entering your username and password, you'll get prompted through the app to enter your second factor to verify your identity.

4. The First Bus App 🚍

Along with cycling, walking and trains, the bus is a really helpful mode of transport for students to get around. It links the Stoke Bishop residences to both the campus and the city center.

And the best part? All first-year students are entitled to a free bus pass and can use the service which runs until 4 am Monday–Saturday!

The cost of the pass is covered in your accommodation fees, and you’ll be able to redeem it through a unique voucher code that’s sent to you.

To access your pass, and show it on your journeys, you’ll need to download the First Bus app onto your phone. The First Bus app is a great way to catch buses around Bristol, you can buy and store tickets on your phone and use real-time information to track your buses. So, it’s a win-win either way!

5. Headfirst ⚡

Want to know what’s happening in Bristol beyond campus? Headfirst is Bristol’s go-to app for discovering gigs, club nights and arts events. It’s a not-for-profit platform that champions community, diversity and local causes, so every ticket you buy helps support something good. Download it to explore curated and independent events across the city.

6. Instagram 📸

Now this is a bit of a cheeky one - but make sure you follow us on Instagram! Here you can stay up to date with the latest from Bristol SU, what your Officers are up to and student groups you should get involved with!
