Bristol Improv are the University of Bristol’s improvised comedy society. We host shows, workshops, events, and socials featuring improv comedy! Our aim is to build a fun and exciting comedy community for students here at the University, with no previous experience required!
You can see us in action at our free student comedy night 'Dynamite!' ("thoroughly entertaining" - Epigram) on the last Tuesday of every month, showcasing the very best of local stand up and improvised comedy! Zed Alley, 8-10pm.
Our weekly workshops are very relaxed, allowing attendees to participate in warmups, scenes and short improv games, or just sit, watch and enjoy! They're accessible and inclusive, it doesn't matter if you're looking to get started in comedy, want to build your rapport as an actor or just want to get involved in something new! Run by our amazing committee members, these workshops run during term time and are generally on a Wednesday, 6:00-8:00pm in the Stephenson Room (Richmond Building). Check out our Instagram or Facebook pages for more information!
Throughout the year we put on exciting themed shows with out sister society, the Bristol Revunions! These feature longform narrative improv, such as our Halloween, Festive and Valentine's Day shows! You'll find updated ticket links on our webpage, alongside links to anything else important happening.
We also make annual appearances to packed out venues at the Edinburgh Fringe which have received several excellent reviews:
'5★…comic brilliance’ (The Flaneur), ‘4★…some of the sharpest young minds on the improvised comedy circuit' (Younger Theatre), ‘4★…truly hilarious’ (Edfringe Review). '5★...so slick and funny' (Inter:Mission), 'True to form, Bristol Improv Society provised laughs and originality...' (Epigram). '4★ Strong characters from the get-go' (Binge Fringe Magazine).
We put on tons of exciting socials throughout of the year to help you get to know your fellow improvisers! In the past, we've had a wide range of events, including board game café trips, improv 'jams' at the local improv theatre, movie nights, watching live improv shows together, a joint winter formal, karaoke nights, playing the classic game of sardines, joining in on Revunions' famous Taskmaster night, watching other student performances, cycling from Bristol to Bath together, chill café meetups, and post-show pub trips! You can expect many of these to be back this year, plus an array of fun new socials, and we'll always listen to what you want to do. There's something for everyone!
You can buy membership here on our SU page. It's only £5, and will allow you to come to all our regular workshops, enable you to perform in Dynamite, our seasonal shows, and Edinburgh Fringe, give you access to exciting socials, and let you purchase discounted tickets to all Improv and Revunions shows!
