ABOUT THE MAGAZINE:
As a discipline, our aim is to promote the learning of different cultures and lived experiences through the lenses of different forms of media, such as art, literature, film, music, and more.
As a magazine, our aim is to bring cultures together using art as a universal language. LOST IN TRANSLATION plays on the idea that whilst languages cannot be directly translated and that one will never understand a culture as much as someone who grew up experiencing that culture, art, learning, and translation can still bring us closer together through more exposure and the emotional transmission that occurs when we engage with art. We should not avoid translation just because there are things that get lost, because that way they will never be found. Art is a core way to engage with culture, unbounded by the restrictions of class, and something we surround ourselves with in our everyday lives. Art can also help those of us who feel 'in between' cultures explore our own mixed identities, especially when we don't speak the languages of our cultures.
The magazine won't only help us to learn about other cultures and each other, but will showcase the breadth of creativity and talent of both CLC students and Comp Lit Society members :)
