In the Intermediate course, students will be able to work with Margaret's help to:

  • design and complete individual projects using hand-building techniques learnt previously
  • repeat/develop techniques learnt in the past in order to improve workmanship, design and function
  • learn how to use the potter's wheel/ make progress in throwing (NB: as there are only three wheels in the studio, it will be necessary to share access to them.  Therefore, it might not be possible for an individual to use a wheel exclusively)

Intermediate students are expected to start the course with a clear idea of what they wish to focus on.  They should have some plans, even if is just the function of the object or an image from the Internet.  They will also need to keep track of their work in terms of the items, storage and stages of production.

In our very busy studio storage space for items is limited, so that efficient production and removal of finished work will help to minimise loss or damage to students' work.  Although this appears to be a very serious course, as students are busy improving their skills, there will be ample time for collaboration, chat and inspiration.

The 6 pm class will have to leave promptly at the end of each session but the 7:45 pm group will have the advantage of remaining in the studio after 9.15.
