The sensory rooms are designed for students who need a dedicated space to focus on or engage with their senses, escape from the stresses of the day, or just relax, in an accessible, controlled and either more or less over-stimulating environment. You can request access to the sensory room by completing this form.
The Senate House sensory room is located at the back of Living Room 2 on the fourth floor. The room benefits from many features, including a variety of controllable lights with different settings, a bubble tube, a projector with a variety of calming slides, controllable effects on ceiling tiles and interactive sound features. The Sensory Room also has soft seating, weighted blankets and black out blinds.
Opened in April 2025, the Richmond Building Sensory Room is located on the third floor on the South side of the building (next to the CALD office). The room features a variety of customisable LED lights, beanbags, weighted blankets, noise cancelling headphones and sensory toys! It has blackout blinds so you can choose whether you want natural light, colourful LED lighting or a dark room to relax in!
Step free access is available at each entrance. Once inside the building there are lifts which service all floors. There are doors around the building which have to be opened manually. Accessible toilets are available on the Lower Ground, Ground, First, Third, and Fifth floors. Gender neutral toilets are available on the First and Fourth floors.
Level ground access (via lift or step-free access) is available via entrances on Queens Road and Gordon Road. Once inside there are lifts on the ground floor which service all floors. There are doors around the building that have to be opened manually. Accessible toilets are available on every floor in the building and gender-neutral toilets are available on upper ground, third and fourth floors.
