Shakespeare Society: Give it a Go!

A free, skills-based workshop to introduce you to Shakespeare Society and a chance to meet other freshers! It's also a great chance to get involved ahead of our showcase auditions. A duologue extract will be released before the session, giving you some time to familiarise yourself with the scene. To keep updated, follow our Instagram (@bristolshakespearesociety) and join our WhatsApp group (link available via the insta). We'll have paper copies of the script in the room - including large print. The workshop will begin with some quick icebreakers and games. We'll then begin the first of four rotations, working on the chosen extract. For each rotation, you'll be with a different partner, giving you the opportunity to meet lots of new people! Gradually, we'll consider the scene in more depth and from different perspectives, adding context and nuance. By the end of the session, you'll be confidently...

  • Using Shakespearean language to inform your own creative decisions.
  • Considering how literary and historical context can influence your performance.
  • Balancing humorous and sinister tones.
  • Plus, it's a great chance to meet new people!

Workshop-suitable clothes are advised, although we won't be doing anything too strenuous! If you have any questions or additional needs, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Looking forward to seeing you there!
