Symphonia Symphony Orchestra’s Spring Concert promises to be an exciting concert with a blend of contemporary music and orchestral standards, while maintaining our goals to shine a spotlight on female composers, both past and current. Bookending the concert, Vivian Fung’s dynamic “Prayer” will be put in conversation with the canonical giant that is Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. This concert will also feature the winner of our annual Concerto Competition, Sophie Winfield, who will be performing Cécile Chaminade’s Concertino for Flute and Orchestra. The orchestra is also excited to premiere a piece by our own conductor, Dominic Lipari. In their own words, “glacier melting characterizes the majesty of a glacier melting, cracking and falling apart into the sea, meanwhile acknowledging the existential anxiety of experiencing climate change. Though some damage humans have done to our planet is irreparable, there’s still much hope to save our world as we know it, if we act quickly.”
The concert will take place on Friday the 28th of April at 7:30pm, in the Victoria Rooms, Unversity of Bristol
Doors will open at 7pm
