Bristol INSPIRE is part of a national programme to increase medical, dental and vet student engagement in academic research. The Bristol programme is partnered with GW4 universities Cardiff, Plymouth and Exeter.

We charge no subs fee for membership which offers access to all our Journal club sessions and events.

• Thurs 5th February: Joint talk with First Aid Society with Dr Jules Blackham (book a FREE ticket here)
• Weds 11th February: Online talk from Bristol Cardiovascular Surgery research group (sign up for FREE to receive the join link here)

We run various events throughout the year including:

• Regular Journal club sessions, where we dissect and discuss research papers as a group
• Annual Showcase event, where students have previously taken part in summer studentships present their research projects
• This year, we are hosting the GW4 INSPIRING RESEARCH Conference on Saturday 15 November 2025 in Wills Memorial Building – please register to attend or give a poster or oral presentation here (closing date for registration and abstract submission: 10 October 2025)

There is also the opportunity to become INSPIRE ambassadors. They are medical, dental and veterinary students involved in helping to bridge the research gap by:

• organising and speaking at research events
• representing the students' voice in meetings
• creating promotional material and managing social media for the programme
