Student Trustees

Alex Dunn

Alex Dunn is a final-year Law student and is serving a two-year term on the Board of Bristol Students' Union. Alex joined the Board in 2022 and is serving as Co-Chair of the Board for the 2023-4 academic year.

Alex has held a variety of roles within Bristol SU and the University over the past two years. In his first-year, Alex joined the Orchard Heights JCR Committee, where he delivered various student wellbeing initiatives and events. In this role, he successfully secured funding from the University to start a Harm Reduction programme, providing free sanitary and contraceptive products for 450+ students.

Alex continued his passion for student leadership as Editor-in-Chief of Dicta 2021, the University's Law magazine, and Vice President of the University of Bristol Law Club. With over 1,200 members, the Law Club is one of the largest student societies at the SU. In Alex's 2022-23 Committee year, the Law Club collaborated with 20+ sponsors to deliver 50+ in-person events to students of all years at the University. Alex founded the Law Club's Diversity Mentoring Scheme, pairing first-year students from backgrounds typically underrepresented in the legal industry with student mentors.

Alex now runs the Commercial Team at Epigram, the University's long-established student newspaper. He also continues to work for the University as a Student Ambassador, including as a Mentor for the Widening Participation Summer programme.

In his work on the Board, Alex hopes to advance the SU's vision of "A Union for all students", holding Senior Leaders to account for the priorities of the student population. He is keen to hear from students with feedback about how the SU operates to serve their interests.

Leonardo Coppi

Leonardo Coppi is a third-year Electrical and Electronic Engineering student and an elected Student Trustee of the University of Bristol Student's Union for 2023. Throughout his time at Bristol, Leonardo has strived to ensure that fair student representation is heard at all levels of decision-making.

During his first year, Leonardo was elected as the Junior Common Room President of Badock Hall and worked to deliver representation for students. Collaborating with senior university staff, he secured the opening of previously shut-off facilities and lobbied to make communal spaces welcoming and fit for purpose, making way for strong community-building initiatives in student residences.

In his second year, Leonardo was elected to the Student Union's Democratic Standards Committee. There, he worked to safeguard democratic processes and ensured they operated in a fair, transparent, and accessible manner. Approving election rules and motions submitted to Student Council, scrutinising FTOs in Standing Committee meetings, and allocating resources for Network events led Leonardo to understand the benefits he could bring as a Student Trustee.

Leonardo's enthusiasm for volunteering and student democracy has been hugely influenced by the United World College movement to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future, and he ensured students were heard and supported in their course as a Bristol Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society (BEEES) committee member.

Rachel Formby

Rachel Formby is a third-year student studying Law, elected as a Student Trustee in 2023. During her second year of university, she was elected Careers Secretary of the University of Bristol Law Club, one of the SU's largest societies. This followed on from her time as Editor of Dicta Magazine, where she managed the Equality, Diversity and ESG features. Away from her university roles, she enjoys volunteering her time as an Adviser at Citizens Advice Bristol, as well as working at a non-profit organisation in the US the past summer. Rachel is looking forward to her new role as part of the SU, particularly ensuring the SU meets its charitable goals and acts in the best way for students.

Sude Capoglu

Sude Capoglu is an incoming penultimate year law student at the University of Bristol who was elected as a Student Trustee in 2023 for a two-year term, effective as of June 2023.

During her first year, Sude has been elected as the First Year Law Course Representative by her cohort and as the Undergraduate Law Faculty Representative of Bristol Student Union (BSU). She also took an active role in Pro Bono Society and Unity and Diversity in Law Society as the first year representative of both as well as in the reaffiliation of European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) in Bristol.

Sude embraces further challenges by having nominated herself and being elected as the Vice President of the University of Bristol Law Club, which is one of the largest and well established societies at the BSU, for the 2023-2024 academic year.

She is hoping to make use of her first year experiences in her Peer Mentor role in the upcoming academic year.

In her spare time, Sude likes playing the classical guitar, playing tennis and learning languages.

Sude would like to ensure that BSU stays committed to its objectives and would challenge the status quo as needed.
