The Swap Shop can be found in Living Room 1 on the fourth floor of Senate House

What is the Swap Shop?

The Swap Shop is a sustainable campaign launched by the SU to provide students with access to free food, clothes and books!

The Swap Shop lives by the entrance of Living Room 1 and is a community larder and clothes swap, with the books spreading across the entire fourth floor. Here you can pick up canned and non-perishable foods (such as pasta, oats and rice), don’t forget to bring containers! The clothes rail holds clean and undamaged pre-loved items that are free to take. The Book Swap, which includes all the books on the shelves on the fourth floor, is a great opportunity to donate books you’ve read and find new ones to read.

Donations of non-perishable food items and clothes in a good condition are very welcome and encouraged! You can leave these donations in the donation boxes on 4th floor or in the Loft (on the ground floor of Senate House). To leave book donations, simply add them to the shelves!

Are you part of a society and want to get involved? Your answer:

Swap Shop Take-Over!

Here's how it works:

The Swap Shop Takeover is an event run by a student groups to encourage people to donate to the Swap Shop. You’ll encourage people to bring clothes or food to swap with each other and anything left at the end will go into the Swap Shop donation bins.

Just fill out a form to register your interest and we’ll help you with booking the space and promoting the event.

But why?

  • Your society will get promoted through the Bristol SU Instagram
  • It will work towards your Sustainability Accreditation as part of the Bristol SU Group Accreditation Scheme
  • Organise fun, themed swap events tailored to your members.
  • Support students and staff by giving them access to free clothing, food, and books.
  • Make a difference by promoting sustainability on campus.
  • An easy event to run multiple times a year if you want to!

Make it your own

Last year, the Trans Student Network ran amazing drives that were a huge success—could your group be next?

Outgrown your branded sport kits? A sports gear swap could be perfect for you!

Medical or Veterinary students, have leftover scrubs at the end of the year? Share them with students who might need them.

Run a book swap like the Classics and Ancient History Society—swap textbooks, novels, or anything in between!

Whether it’s clothing, books, or something unique to your group, a Swap Shop Big Swap takeover is a great way to make an impact, have fun, and show your support for a more sustainable campus.
