An Alternative Guide to Study Spaces

Wednesday 31-01-2024 - 10:44

Study space is one of the issues that we hear about most frequently from you. Your Undergraduate Education Officer, Nicole, represents your academic interests and has been prioritising work on this. She is in regular conversations with the university about increasing the number of study spaces and the accessibility of those spaces. She’s currently working with the university to develop their study space finder webpage to make it more user friendly.

We’ll be sharing this updated page as soon as it’s ready, but in the meantime here are some alternative study spaces you can make use of for when you can’t find a spot in the ASSL.

Plan in advance

There are eight libraries and four study centres that can be used by any student at the University. Want to guarantee a space? You can book up to 20 hours of study desk space a week, and there are group study spaces you can book too. So if you know when your gaps between lectures are you can get planning.

The Richmond Building

There is study space available in the Richmond Building which is generally pretty quiet outside of assessment season. There are a range of different seating options, some PCs and whiteboards available, great views and even a microwave to heat up your lunch on the second floor!

For Summer 2024, from Thursday 25 April - Friday 31 May the Carpenter Room in the Richmond Building will be able to be used throughout the day, during weekdays and weekends, to help provide additional study space.

Bristol Libraries

There are city council libraries all over the city, that have a range of different opening hours (some stay open into the early evening). The Central Library on College Green is open daily, has study spaces, and a café you can make use of.

Bristol Botanic Garden

One for when the weather gets warmer, but you can get free access to the garden and there’s Wi-Fi available. And what better way to take a study break than a walk among nature?!
