Last night saw the first Student Council of the academic year, bringing together elected student representatives to discuss, debate and vote on a motion put forward by students.
Alongside shaping SU policy, your Full-Time Officers team kicked things off with updates on what exactly they have been working to make student life better. Key priorities include tackling student poverty, improving academic support, creating more inclusive campus spaces and pushing for fairer housing and transport. Officers are also working with the University and other student unions to turn these priorities into meaningful changes for students.
Every motion that passes becomes official SU policy, helping shape our priorities and the work we do to represent and support students. You can find out more about motions on the Ideas Board.
So, what made it through? Let’s break down the results and what they mean for your SU.
1. Showers in the Richmond Building: Passed ✅
The last item on our Agenda was an Expression of Dissatisfaction towards the shortened timelines for submitting motions. This item was passed, noting Student Council’s dissatisfaction. We will explore revising our timelines for next year.
With Bristol SU, your voice always has somewhere to go. And you don't have to create change alone - your representatives can help make it happen!
Head over to the Ideas Board and share your suggestions. Your idea could get passed as a motion at the next Student Council in December, and be worked on by your Full-Time Officer Team!
