Description

Welcome to the Bollywood Dance Society!

If you are interested in dance and in Bollywood, then this is the place for you! We are an inclusive society for anyone and everyone willing to give it a go! It doesn't matter if you've danced before, or never danced at all - we have things that suit everyone! Our choreographers and committee are well-versed in a range of different dance styles including some classical Indian styles such as Bharatnatyam and Kathak, plus classic Bollywood Dance. Come along if you want to try it out!

Having only been created seven years ago, BDS is proud to have already been awarded Bristol SU’s Best Society of the Year, Regional Champions at Battle of Bollywood 2017, the Bristol SU Gold Balloon Award, and to have been appreciated by the likes of the Mayor of Bristol and University Chancellor.

We run weekly lessons, workshops, and many social events throughout the year including our sell-out Bollywood Movie Night. In the 21/22 academic year, we partnered with DesiRaves for Arjun's performance at Pryzm, with priority tickets for our members. We frequently collaborate with Bristol Bollynights for club nights, and members receive discounted tickets and opportunities to perform on the main stage.

This year we aim to hold a Bollywood Dance Society Showcase. This is to allow our fantastically talented members to show their creativity and talent in BDS' own event! Keep a look out for details later in the year.

We also perform at a variety of events and competitions, both in and out of the University. Our largest annual showcase is at Aashiyana, UoB's largest South Asian Dinner and Dance extravaganza! At Aashiyana 2023, we had out BIGGEST EVER performance - totalling 18 minutes! We also perform at Garba, Diwali Ball, Holi and many more events within the university. Furthermore, each year, we audition to compete in the National Competition, Just Bollywood - the most prestigious inter-university Bollywood dance competition in the UK. In 2021, we successfully auditioned and competed among the top 10 universities in the country! We competed again in 2023!
